So, after months on Mastodon, through two different public servers and my own self-hosted instance (which lasted all of 3 months), I'm finally writing an #introduction post.
Born, raised, and still residing in the DC metro area, I'm an #IT Support technician full-time, and #electronics sales associate part-time (#PC / #Apple / TVs / etc.). Also a #motorsports fan, specifically #NASCAR#IMSA and #F1. Always interested in #infosec and #internet news, along with general #technology and #science news. And somehow I have some time to spend #gaming, with current favorites of #Fortnite (Zero Build of course) and #Forza (any of them!).
I don't tend to post a lot, but may boost content related to the above interests and more from time to time.
It's funny how #Fortnite started as a #game about building forts, and then #battleRoyale#games got popular and Fortnite became a battle royale game with forts, but the forts actually just got in the way so they took them out entirely. #videoGames#gaming#fps
It wasn't always like that, Valve's original implementation in #Dota2 back in 2013 was a pretty nice way to monetize the free-for-everyone game, as it just it doubled the frequency of cosmetic drops, gave a small unique tradable cosmetic, and financed the annual esports tournament, then it started getting worse and worse each year when all games (especially #Fortnite) did the same but while being more expensive, having account-locked and missable cosmetics, and introducing tons of challenges that require the player to play all the time to complete...
I wish they would make #Fortnite work on #Linux so I could own the skin of the buff calico cat 😞 (I don't remember if the game is fun but that is beside the point)
