A young relative of mine has classmates that are kind of obsessed with #BrawlStars. From a cursory read of Wikipedia, it seems to be your typical #freeToPlay/#freemium#MOBA. Does anybody have more information about it? Anything to be wary of? Ads? Invasive app? Gambling/loot boxes mechanics?

Why the #freetoplay model is actually better for the digital ownership then any payed digital items.
Recently Sony took away it's users abilities to play movies they once bought. Idk if this means you can't play the movies even if they are installed on the hardware and you are playing it offline.
But say you bought a game like say Mario All Stars, well now you can't buy that if you wanted to (legally) it's gone. That likely has a big impact on fans since they won't sell Galaxy or sunshine in the eshop.
Then say you're playing Fortnite everything is free to begin with except the skins and emotes etc pretty much. If they took away a game mode, it's not the biggest deal since game is free and there are so many of them. Or say they stopped selling a skin in the game due to licensing issues. You can still likely use the skins you bought and get into a game freely for some time.
all in all, in free to play you don't lose as much when they do take away stuff, especially if you never payed to begin with. The game still goes on. With the #Sony situation, it doesn't look like the digital movies are lasting after suposibly paying for them. What's even the point?
How am I having more fun with a #FreeToPlay#Disney#Kart racer than I ever did with #MarioKart? It's crazy how much my brain craves a sense of progression, even if it's designed to make you want to pay money. It's also just a solid kart Racer. Oh how I miss #DiddyKongRacing

Last month we spent $78k advertising our game Pocket Planes and took in $110k in revenue for a profit of $32k. Unity wants us to pay $18k (cutting profits by more than half) based on 120k installs. This doesn't even take into account various other substantial costs so it is even worse than that in reality. #GameDev#Unity#IndieDev#MobileGames#FreeToPlay
We're thrilled to announce Update 1.9.1 for Spiderbro is here, and it's crawling with improvements!
📌 In this update:

One modern video game mechanism I detest is the real-life countdown timer. Especially if the game already has a built-in notion of “time.”
I’m currently playing a sports game where the free agent market turns over every hour. This means there are times when my incentive is to not play the game, and instead wait for the market to turn over.
@gilhova
Having worked on games like this, here are the three main reasons for those real-world timers:
1: To turn the game into a habit. This is as insidious as it sounds. The first sessions are generous, then it starts to dry out. They want to make sure you come back later.
2: To give you something you can buy. A lot of free to play design is about creating obstacles for the player, which you can always pay to remove.
3: To make it seem like the game is bigger than it is. Some of the things I made for FoE would take you about three years to get to. As a player, I never made it there. #gamedesign#gamedevelopment#freemium#freetoplay
