OC I designed and rendered a couple of icons for the magazines I started, and I’d like to share some behind the scenes images with y'all. I’m also open to doing a few more of these in future.

So I 3D modelled two icons (well, illustrations rather) for the communities that I created on kbin: Industrial Design and Jewelry Design. These icons are meant to reimagine kbin’s logo in a way that's relevant to each community....

Nothing's Shocking, the first album by Jane's Addiction, is 35 years old. I saw the video for "Mountain Song" on 120 Minutes and bought the album on cassette the next day.

Between this album and Pretty Hate Machine by Nine Inch Nails (1989) I wore both cassettes out. I listened to Nothing's Shocking pretty much every day until Pretty Hate Machine came out, and then I listened to that one everyday. Side note: I spent my 39th birthday in 8th row at the NINJA tour featuring both bands after seeing them at the first Lollapalooza in 1991.

  1. I feel old. 2) I feel like both albums hold up.

Happy 35th Nothing's Shocking. You're still brilliant.

Today of course marks the 30th anniversary of nine inch nails' legendary record The Downward Spiral. This masterpiece of an album was released March 8, 1994, and was a pretty intense thing for 14 year old me to hear.

This photo is from Instagram - Trent just posted it, saying what 28 year old him had to say still excites him but breaks his heart. It's a dark album, man. All the pigs are still lined up.

Here it is, in all its glory: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLL1ZJvW8jPWdzeDhA516qxjWVrfVPxRie&si=9FU_s5DF6kn6YcBV

The FSA site is online! There's a couple tweaks to be made, for example, I seem to have gotten at least one release date wrong (copy/paste strikes again), but nothing I'm worried about fixing right away.

Support is always appreciated, but feel free to just listen or take advantage of the "soft" paywall too.

30 years ago today (Feb 25, 1994), nine inch nails released the first single from The Downward Spiral, 'March of the Pigs'. I had this record pretty soon after it came out and I played it nonstop. World changing. Step right up.

OC To start off, I’d like to share a personal industrial design project from a while ago: a concept of what a semi-pro camera system for smartphones might look like (www.behance.net)

Intended mainly as a thought experiment — I tried to come up with a seamless and easy to use system with various accessories, like lenses, filters and blinds, that wouldn’t feel clunky.

A bit of a Jessica history lesson for those new to our metal family.

I write in cycles with a core release and at least one remix album per main cycle.

We are in the fourth main writing cycle.

  1. Fidelity - an instrumental metal album born from fiery creativity but uncertainty whether me, a trans woman, could sing and not get destroyed for it. The companion remix album was called Infidelity - both names an allusion to a commitment or lack of commitment to metal.

Got a killer for this week. When I was a kid in the 90s, I had this awesome Wax Trax video compilation (on VHS!) from 1994, it had KMFDM, Coil and Laibach on it (and a ton of other great bands) including BRAINDEAD SOUNDMACHINE.

This was the first way I ever heard this great Patsy Cline song, this unforgettable 'metaldisco' (as they liked their genre to be called) cover. It's totally wild and probably underappreciated.

Having a basic understanding of and a passing interest in the revolution has its uses, even in 2023.

I wanted to clean my patio furniture as steam is good for that so I dug out my old Vax steam cleaning gun which I'd last used about 7 years ago. It initially worked, but then seemed to stop.

I let it cool and emptied the (still mostly full) tank. A lot of limescale. Refilled, still seemed blocked. Emptied again, shook, refilled, reheated, still blocked. Sigh.

To celebrate title track from my and my co-conspirators' next full-length, Salvation, hitting RFF, how about we celebrate with a hard hitting remix of sorts.

This is "Salvation (Anti-Gospel Mix)", a bile-filled remix from yours truly.

Comment if you listen, whatever you want really. Just listen~

I’ll readily acknowledge I’m something of a dilettante when it comes to metal -- despite a long history with it and a general affection, I never really dove into its depths. You’ll have to forgive me for not knowing exactly how to categorize “LD 99” by Jessica B. Kelly (aka @jessica ) and the Void Conspiracy. What I can tell you is that guitars chug along like classic thrash ...(continued in next post)
