#LibreOffice
Thank you for #Draw it has allowed me to fill out #pdf documents and forms that normally do not allow editing! Great for my horrible hand writing!
Looking for recommendations on beginner-friendly #Linux distributions.
I don't need any novice help, this is for a friend who wants to move away from Windows.
They need the usual productivity software, web browser, mail, Word, Excel, etc. which will probably be easy to replace. I advised them to start working with #LibreOffice now, to see if they feel comfortable with it. They also need some more exotic software, but I'm confident it will work fine with Wine. We'll test that out soon.
They're also very privacy-sensitive, so I'm currently discounting #Ubuntu.
Why oh why #libreoffice are you all the sudden installing stupid help files in dozens of languages that I do not even speak. Can't you tell what language is default and only install that one? This latest update is HUGE and unnecessary!
I recently went back to using @libreoffice again (I used to use OpenOffice) instead of Microsoft Office, because now Microsoft wants to start charging monthly for Word, Excel, etc.
I don't know why I ever stopped using it (Having Microsoft Office already installed on a new laptop?) but LibreOffice is SO great, I never should have stopped. I love the ease of it, .odt files that work wherever -- the whole thing is superior to Microsoft products.
LibreOffice has some really excellent getting-started Guides for their open-source Office Suite
There are some good reasons why Microsoft Office gets used widely, and that is often because it comes pre-installed as trialware on Windows PC’s, it is pushed into schools and universities with educational discounts, it has massive funding for lobby ...continues
I'm planning to remove Windows from the rest of my machines soon.
There is a small (big) obstacle though and I'd like to hear your experience.
I'm using #GoogleDrive for the majority of my and the team's workflow. I'm mostly concerned about the sync functionality.
Which #Linux client offers the best, most stable and most similar sync experience to the official Win app?
The second issue is Office365 (offline apps). Can it run reliably in #Wine yet?
(contd...)
@po3mah I haven’t tried Office 365 via Wine, but for maximum compatibility—especially with larger or more complex documents—your best bet is O365 in the browser. (I spent quite a bit of time trying to use #Linux and #LibreOffice in a corporate work environment & ran into countless compatibility issues.)
can somebody help me with a really weird #LibreOffice problem
for some reason when i try putting text in the middle of a paragraph it's automatically bolded no matter what i do??? this is extremely annoying and impacting my ability to write my memoir
#LibreOffice became my favorite word processing suite after MS Office/365/whatever it calls itself these days became almost completely paywalled and LO is not only a nearly drop-in replacement but I can also convert documents to pdf just by using the Terminal on my Linux box.
And, yes, this is part of LibreOffice's May promotion but so what? I promote products I actually not only regularly use but are also intuitive.
@libreoffice I'll gladly join the Month of #LibreOffice 😃. I've been using it for years, both private and for work. And guess what, I'm good even when working with MS-using colleagues.
Even my grandpa uses it happily. It took him years to realise it's not MS Office, because it worked just as well. If he can manage it, anyone can.
So why I love it? It does what it needs to do and does it well, and it's #free and #opensource, and actively developed and improved. What more can you need?
#LibreOffice question: I have a *.csv file with dates and numbers. How can I stop the number auto format in LibreOffice (version 7.6.6.3)? It transforms the decimal numbers (such as 0.1) in entire numbers (such as 1).
Office also changes the numbers in its own annoying way, but I'm really trying to use LibreOffice more.
I'm adding pictures of the screens I have in WordPad, how I imported the data in LibreOffice, how it appears in LibreOffice Calc and in Excel.
Edit: solved! Thanks @elrohir !!
Another #LibreOffice feature you may not know about! You can add a navigation panel for switching slides while viewing a presentation. In the menu: Slide Show ▸ Slide Show Settings ▸ Show navigation bar. (Added in LibreOffice 7.6 😊) #foss#opensource
The news of Microsoft adding all the AI crap to Windows and Office has never made me more pleased to be using Linux and LibreOffice. That decision looks more correct with each passing year. #microsoft#linux#LibreOffice
@hankg I've used LibreOffice for years. I won't load Microsoft Office. LibreOffice is truly excellent. FWIW I run a home Linux file server. #LibreOffice#Linux
