⚠️ Feedback wanted!

I'm working on improving the @pixelfed app onboarding, and want your feedback on the new sign up flow.

Does this do a good job at conveying the choice of communities to join while providing an easy default instance to join?

This isn't final, I'd like to get a general positive consensus on this before moving forward.

Boosts greatly appreciated!

alwynispat,

@dansup @pixelfed use geolocation to recommend a server.

@dansup @pixelfed ALSO, it allows you to focus on what you want the first part of your username to be.

If I wanted @matt but @Matt was taken, then I can change the domain until I find one where the username @matt is free.

@dansup @pixelfed

I had this solution in mind for on , but I guess its somewhat transferrable to too if you are willing to maintain a list of instances.

"I don't think Pixelfed needs to exist, use Mastodon"

Pixelfed provides a photo/video focused experience, and offers more features geared towards this (filters, collections, portfolios) than Mastodon does

You can use Mastodon or other platforms to share photos

When content is based around photos/videos, it's a much different experience

"I don't think TikTok or Instagram need to exist. Twitter supports photos & video"

Imoptimal,

@dansup

Couldn't agree more.

With the updates in the recent weeks, it's really a smooth and wonderful experience using .

@dansup and don't forget portfolios too. I suppose yes many only see posts and don't understand those other niche features aimed at photos and video specifically.

@seanb @kainoa @atomicpoet The name change also helps avoid a potential legal fight online, as there is already a company using the name on the App Store (it's a calculator app that does not boast great ratings).

Changing it is a good thing! Once launches & a decent iPhone / iPad app arrives, I plan to launch a solo instance based upon the platform formally known as Calckey.

I still plan on using , , & . 😀

I'm still not good with the whole concept.

I see some people on that have a Mastodon's account, I mean with the same name and handle.

Are they linked ?

One account only for everything in the Fediverse ? (I still not sure what this means either.)

I still have a lot to learn. And that's fine. 😎

Have you tried the latest version of Pixelfed ?

When you talk about here on Mastodon (or anywhere in the fediverse) have you actually spent much time on Instagram? Because is only like Instagram in the most basic sense. Instagram is mostly populated with people selling products, services or themselves. Instagram is like a tame version of . If federated platforms begin to look like these places I personally will drop them.

I'm glad to see development is coming along nicely. It's not something that I will personally be using, but it's nonetheless a welcome member of the fediverse community. PF fills a niche for many users that cannot be replicated on other fedi software, and the more options available to users, the better the fediverse becomes.

Pixelfed & Mastodon

It's cool how it works once you've gotten the hang of having to boost from Pixelfed to make it show up in the associated Mastodon account which you can then boost again from an actual Mastodon account. You can post once and not have to fill in info, alt text, etc.

I'm not using apps (not a big mobile user), i'm using Librewolf on a linux desktop OS and once i committed to only having one tab of each open it's less confusing and works well.

hmm, is it intentional that comments are so hard to actually see? had a short discussion with another pixelfed user under one of my pics today, could not see my own responses from pixelfed at all. only could see all comments via mastodon
