When #metaldetecting in ploughed fields you always find Early Modern shoe buckles dating from after 1660. Reading June Swann, I just learned something that might seem obvious. These buckles were not sewn to your shoe. They were like a pair of cufflinks that you moved from one set of footwear to another. That's why we never find discarded #shoes with the buckles still on. Here's a shoe from ~1710 and a pair of replica buckles of the same century.
Since this community is ostensibly about being frugal, and not necessarily about sales, I thought I would share an exceptional value in footwear—Meermin Mallorca. Most of their dress shoes are about $200. Get to a store if you can, to get sizing right. Some models might have a break-in period, but will last a very long time,...

Trevor Williams returns to help me and Simon discuss aquatic weddings, unlikely merchandise-based tributes, and the worst possible comedy night ever (which is a high bar to clear)
When and where did our ancestors first fashion footwear?
Ichnology, the study of fossil tracks and traces, can help to answer this unresolved question through a search for clear evidence of footprints made by humans who were shod – that is, wearing some kind of foot covering.
A little bit more bulky than I imagined, but as for #black#shoes goes I accept it…🤡 #Fizik#TerraClimaX2 - my hopes are high for the autumn rain and incoming winter. The reality check is yet to come… They feel a bit toasty after a while at home so, fingers crossed!😂 #Cycling#Bicycle#Rower@rower@cycling
OK… I’ve ordered another pair of #Fizik#shoes…🤡 This time it’s Terra Clima X2. I’m hoping they will be a little bit weatherproof, as I’m again hell-bent on #cycling entire year!
Also, I’m using #CrankBrothers#pedals and I’m disappointed how freaking expensive their cleats are… Obviously, I didn’t care to check before…🤡😁
What makes these shoes gay? Isn't a gaberdine a type of robe? What makes brown, brown and black summer colors? So many questions, so few answers. #vintageAd#gay#shoes
Real talk: my new flame shoes are awesome, but I struggle with owning more than two pairs of shoes, because growing up that’s all I had: a nice pair and a grungy pair (the old nice pair) ‘cause that’s all my folks could afford. I still feel like I can’t have nice things, not cause I’ll wreck ‘em, but because it’s extravagant.
Anyone else feel this way, or am I the only one?
(Not for nothing, but I got a great deal, which helps a little.)
