There's no such thing as progress in / without your mind also getting rewired and transformed, but the mind-body aspects don't cause changes in each other. They just both change and blur together.

Recovered from some injury; back to my moves.

coth, to random

Anyone out there have recommendations for beginner tai chi videos online?

Classes in person would be ideal, but this is for someone hypermobile with fibromyalgia (and some other issues), that cannot access classes easily at the moment.

So, videos that are clear and simple. Especially as chronic pain can cause brain fog, so clarity is key.

They are keen to try, having been recommended slow movements, so they can keep mobile without causing any extra pain by over exerting/extending.

We know strength training, stretching, yoga etc... But have no experience in Tai Chi, so assessing a good example from a bad is tricky.

Any suggestions that narrows our search gratefully received 👍

I think I am hyperphant, as opposes to an aphant, meaning I have an "overactive imagination". I think this has fueled a certain skepticism and hyper-rationality in me as hedges against putting too much credence in experiences that might simply be my overpowered imagination.

Then I learn about popular science that tells me, at least for my meditative practices, that some effects may be more real, like Tai Qi hands, than I previously gave credit.

Tai chi, a traditional, slow-moving form of Chinese martial art, is known to increase flexibility and improve balance. Now, new research suggests it's better than more vigorous aerobic exercises for lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension.

Just couldn’t get up early to exercise today, I was kind of awake but too weirded out by a very disturbing dream I had. I’m up and in the bath but I still feel sleepy. Where is my get up and go? (Don’t say it’s got up and gone!) Anyone feeling Tuesday more? Tell me your plans

Dull day here. I'm off to £ and while Mrs Mike is at the gym.
Nothing specific planned for the rest of the day (which is good as we're both tired)

- Lets classify a critter from a TV show / movie which is technically a monster, not an animal.

First up we have a called .

Looking at the morphology its obviously a theropod. It has 3 claws on each hand, and theropod style body and feet.

So I've decided where I am going to classify this as.
I will nest it into the Ceratosauridae family, alongside Ceratosaurus itself, but this would be its own later, more derived version.

As for a name, I would go with something like, Jiaoruanlong kamiyaii

Meaning, in Chinese, "keratin dragon", with specific name being a reference to the Digimon anime, and the first character to have a Greymon,

What do we think of this classification. What should we classify next?

'Tai Chi, the Chinese martial art that involves sequences of very slow controlled movements, may curb the symptoms and complications of Parkinson’s disease for several years, reveals research, published online in the Journal of Neurology Neurosurgery & Psychiatry. Its practice was associated with slower disease progression and lower doses of required drugs over time, the findings show.'

While its movements are slow and gentle, Tai Chi is actually a martial art. Now, a new study shows that it can not only help people learn movements grounded in self defense, but it can also help them fight back against the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.

Stop scrolling

Are you clenching your jaw? Blow a raspberry and relax your facial muscles.

Are your shoulders tense? Shake out your arms and let the shoulders drop.

Are you hunched over? Sit up straight and stretch your arms over your head for a few seconds

Have you been sitting for a while? Walk around, stretch, or move what you can to get the blood flowing.

Take a few deep breaths and let the breath out in a sigh.

Carry on 😉

Plug for our Tai Chi school.

If you're in the / area and want to try Tai Chi out, we've got a bunch happening in August: Tai Chi at the Farmers Market and Tai Chi in the Park. And a new beginning class starting in Sep.

And if you join one of these classes because you saw it on Mastodon, let me know!

Huh ... I interacted with this guy in some online tai chi forums and always though he seemed like an asshole who didn't respect other people. Never met him in person but folks I know who had met him didn't make me think I was missing anything.

And just ran across his name coincidentally in the story of another Jan 6 rioter getting sentenced.

huh ...
