I try to keep my non-reply posts and boosts to a minimum. However, as I’m learning and experiencing more in Mastodon I’m realizing that without algorithms, boosting is critical to expanding everyone’s view of what is happening in this network. I am glad there are no algorithms forcing content into my feed.

I forgot to reply here after boosting this post so I didn’t realize this thread was going on!

I had wanted a MINI since the R50 gen but was only able to finally make it work in 2021. I’m excitedly waiting for a manual JCW that I ordered 4 months ago. Last of the manuals. I should finally be able to take delivery today! I wish I would have been able to have one of the R series but between a family and the money I just had to dream about it back then 🙂

I have mixed feelings about the death of the 27" iMac. As someone who likes to swap out both frequently, I've never been a fan of tethering the display to the CPU. But it was arguably the best Mac for development for a number of years. User upgradable RAM, great display and a decent config was “affordable" (at least as much as any Mac is).

IMO the Studio is a better replacement, unless Apple jacks up the M3 price. But would like to see some Apple monitors that aren't full of compromises.

@TiffyBelle haha! No it didn’t. Yeah, we had stopped watch for a while and then I came back and we had scored twice. However, we definitely don’t look good so far this year even though we pulled this off.

Legitimate question, to which I'm really looking for constructive answers (and not just more dumping on an obviously dying/dead platform):

Where is everyone getting their breaking news after leaving Twitter/X?

I've not taken the platform seriously for a few years now, but updates on breaking news are still the one aspect of it for which I have not found an adequate replacement. "Big Media" is always several hours behind the accounts of real people.

@BrianJohnson @ajaykaul10 I also use RSS feeds and follow other news orgs but I think that @tapandrollgames is trying to understand how people find from non news media.

Honestly, I haven’t seen a lot of real-time posting from as-it-happens events while I’ve been on But, I do hope that as the platform grows we will start to see more of that.

Right now if you search for "country in Africa that starts with the letter K":

  • DuckDuckGo will link to an alphabetical list of countries in Africa which includes Kenya.

  • Google, as the first hit, links to a ChatGPT transcript where it claims that there are none, and summarizes to say the same.

This is because ChatGPT at some point ingested this popular joke:
