Well, this is my 2nd Mastodon account: I was a fairly content member of Mastodon.social, but enjoy having the ability to choose a new instance. I began my institutional career in corrections at the 'Magic Kingdom' of Penitentiaries, (avatar pic of tall prison wall with faux castle front). I was fired there for not crossing a picket line in 1977. I now work to bring gardening/forest experiences to people incarcerated and/or justice system involved. #CriminalJustice #Ukraine #Palestine #BDS

Donald Trump hates Black people.

Barrikoi1,

He doesn't even to think black people are people. He sure knows Leticia James's name, though, and I bet TFG likes her about as much as Putin likes Zelensky. 😉

Yep. When corporate media like CNN gives a racist like Trump a town hall, they may as well call it the KKK Show. CNN: the pro-Apartheid network.

South Carolina's primary is Saturday. Democrats are being asked to cross-over and vote for Nikki Haley to save democracy.

Nikki Haley announced today that she supports the Alabama Supreme Court decision that IVF embryos are babies.

She may not be as crazy as Trump. She may not be besties with Putin. The woman is still a danger.

    Yes, America and allies believe in democracy everywhere but for Palestine. We rightly provide Taiwan weapons so they may remain democratic, but our weapon supply to Israel is used to suppress the rights of Palestinians to self-determination.

    Barrikoi1,

    @Ronial @DrALJONES

    You are correct that the US system has problems, particularly with the build up of the power of our billionaires over our electoral system after Citizens United. However, one can post negative content about America here freely, while negative content posted in China or Hong Kong will quite probably land you in jail or prison. That seems a significant difference.

    Barrikoi1,

    @Ronial @DrALJONES

    I understand your points - at least the working folks had a few victories this past year through the UAW strike and the UPS wage agreement etc. It is disheartening to see the consolidation of money and power with billionaires and corporations the last few decades.

    Listen, nobody is saying that Hamas is not a terrorist organization. We all know it, and they own that. What I'm asking is, if Hamas is a terrorist organization then what does that make Israel?

    CHEAT: The answer is, "a much, much, much bigger terrorist organization".

    Barrikoi1,

    @lizstl13 @ned

    I don't understand the distinction between Netanyahu and the Israeli populace: doesn't this ongoing mass murder in Gaza have the support of a strong majority of Israelis? Wasn't his far right coalition popularly elected in the last year or so? Wouldn't I be responsible for causing awful events if I voted for Trump? Why let those who voted for Bibi off the hook? Haaretz, in speaking against the way this offensive is violating human rights, seems a fairly lonely voice.

    These 2 Palestinian medics risked their lives to drive their ambulance to reach the bullet riddled car in which only a six year old injured child survived, surrounded by the bodies of multiple family members. They died despite waiting 3 hours for authorization to save little Hind's life. They were guilty of having hearts, unlike the nearby IDF.

    Remember all the Western uproar, sanctions and occasional military interventions when Syria's Baathist dictator, Bashar Al-Assad, barrel bombed his own cities and razed them to the ground under the pretext of fighting against Western-backed Islamic terrorists? Now that does the same thing to / under the guise of fighting , the West's response is not only silence but complete support for Netanyahu.

    This war was a huge win for the ayatollahs and Islamists. Huge win.

    I made the same point when I called my senator's office today; America under Biden staying true to Netanyahu's regime as it engages in the mass murder of 11,500 Palestinian children, will reap a harvest of hate for both Israel and America for a generation to come in the Middle East.

    #Palestine / This is what ethnocide looks like: Israel deliberate destruction of Palestinian academia.

    On January 17th, the last remaining intact university in Gaza, Al-Aqsa University, was bombed and completely destroyed by the Israeli military. The bombing of #Gaza's universities is not collateral damage, but part of Israel's deliberate policy to destroy Palestinian academic and cultural life.

    Israeli academic institutions have not spoken out against this destruction and its consequences.

    Over the past 40 years, Palestinian universities have faced systematic harassment by #Israel, including campus closures and restrictions on faculty, students and academic cooperation.

    Since October 7, the situation has severely intensified. In the occupied West Bank, most studies are online due to restrictions. In Gaza, all academic institutions have been destroyed, along with schools, libraries, archives and other educational sites.

    Hundreds of students and faculty members have been killed in the bombings. At least 94 university staff members in Gaza are reported dead. Prominent academics have been specifically targeted and killed.

    This represents an almost complete destruction of Palestinian academic life that will take years to rebuild. Surviving students and staff are traumatized, grieving and displaced.

    Palestinian intellectual life is critical for society. Israel's systematic targeting of #academia is aimed at erasing not just physical infrastructure but Palestinian cultural and spiritual life.

    Dr. Anat Matar (ענת מטר): "As Israeli academics, we must raise our voices against the killing of students and colleagues, mass arrests, and the annihilation of education in Gaza."

    Melania should have to replant the Whitehouse rose garden of Jackie Kennedy she destroyed, one rose at a time, under the direction of Michelle Obama. We can put a stripper pole in her memory at an interstate rest stop somewhere, or maybe at the Trump Presidential Library at San Quentin.

    Take note: Aharon Barak is an Israeli judge appointed by the Govt of Israel to the ICJ in the case of South Africa v Israel. Barak is the former Attorney General of Israel, former Justice on the Israeli Supreme Court, and former President of the Israeli Supreme Court.

    Justice Aharon Barak joined the ICJ ruling against Israel, “on the points of preventing and punishing incitement to genocidal acts and allowing enough humanitarian aid to stop severe deprivation”.

    Barrikoi1,

    @QasimRashid

    Aharon Barak, former President of the Israel Supreme Court, shows considerable courage in ruling that Israel does meet two criteria for putting Palestinians at risk of genocide. It is time for President Biden to show similar courage, and demand, not beg, that Israel allow adequate water and food into Gaza. He also needs to not allow our American supplied one ton bombs to be used to kill women & children in crowded urban areas. He acts like a happy hostage of AIPAC.

    Tens of thousands of pregnant women in Gaza are having to resort to drinking water from potentially contaminated agricultural wells, or sea water. Israel has cut off water supplied by pipes from Israel & caused the closure of the Gaza desalinization plant by denying fuel. Yet another war crime documented in South Africa's case before the ICJ alleging Israel is perpetrating Genocide. A fine article placing Israel's use of water denial in historical context.

    It is indeed frustrating, when Taiwan is such a vibrant democratic system, and China doesn't get along with any of it's neighbors, as it usurps fishing areas, and tries to grab other territorial rights, so it's hardly newsworthy that they still are discontent. By not respecting borders, China is just like Russia. Barrikoi1,

    I think McGurk is just a mid-level diplomat, not a criminal mastermind. He resigned his Anti-Isis Chief job, rather than carry out Trump's betrayal of our faithful allies, the Kurds. The Israel forever campaign is carried out by our Zionist-in-Chief, President Biden, and Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken. The terrorist Houthis, are currently more pro-life than AIPAC's Washington Bureau, also known as the Whitehouse. Who killed 117 children daily this week? Not the Houthis.
