One thing I find fascinating about Republican voters and the mainstream media is that Trump routinely says things like this and -- well, you may not have heard, but the man is running for President of the United States -- and nobody just says outright, "WHAT THE BLOODY FUCK IS WRONG WITH THIS MAN? WHAT THE FUCK IS HE TALKING ABOUT?"

Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973. I was 10 years old. Put in perspective the fact that until I was 10, abortion was illegal. So, I began my life without bodily autonomy. I had it from ages 10 - 60, and now I’m back at square one, without any. This RIGHT didn’t even exist for one person’s entire lifetime.

@StillIRise1963 @Aviva_Gary Yes, this is so important! I made a point of telling young co-workers what my mother, now 90-yo, and I experienced in the workplace, before laws and policies were in place to discourage discrimination and harassment. They were shocked. In my last years, I also told them it's their job to continue to fight to protect what our generation established and advance the battleground. The fight for freedom and equality spans generations, and complacency is surrender.

What was the BEST thing that happened to you in 2023?

Please reply and then boost the question. We hear so much negativity about this year. What is one positive thing that happened to you?

Cotopaxi,
@Cotopaxi@mstdn.social avatar

@dancinyogi So many wonderful things were brought into being in 2023, from the HOA finally landscaping the front of our unit to mitigate flooding every time it rained to successfully avoiding covid for one more year. Best is that Mom cleared her 90th birthday and is still kicking, still living independently, with a little support from her kids. 😊

Link to Time magazine story "Is It Dangerous to Keep Getting Covid-19?", below.
"People who had multiple infections were three times more likely to be hospitalized for their infection up to six months later than those who only got COVID-19 once, and were also more likely to have problems with clotting, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney, and mental-health symptoms. The risks appeared to increase the more infections people experienced."

I'm a computer guy, and every time I watch a show that has anything to do with computers I'm always complaining that the writers are full of 💩 💔 (That's not even a real IP address!).
I assume that cops, lawyers, and doctors are the same about cop, lawyer, and doctor shows respectively.

My question is, are there any shows that depict procedure faithfully?

For example, I've watched The Expanse, and I suspect that they run all of the physics by an expert to make the show more realistic.

@Red_Shirt_Dude Both TV series MASH and Scrubs consistently consulted with medical professionals to ensure accuracy in portraying their characters and plots.

Dr. Al-Aly, Senate hearing on Long Covid:
"The burden of long COVID, the burden of disease and disability from long COVID, when you measure it, is on par with the burden of cancer and heart disease. And even if people emerge unscathed after having the first infection, they can still get long COVID after reinfection, and I don't think enough people really know this fact, or know about this. Recovery rates of long COVID are also low."

Trump defense to impeachment charge was: the Senate has no jurisdiction as I am no longer in office.

Trump defense to criminal charge is: I am immune since you did not convict me in the Senate impeachment trial.

I love this.
I'm letting my old lady hair grow out, and sometimes my inner critic whispers, "You look pathetic, Old Biddy Trying To Look Young!"
And I answer, "Shut up, you. I'm not trying to look young--as if! I'm saving haircut money. And who cares what I do with my hair? I look fabulous."
White and grey are beautiful. 🤍

So, Christmas Baker's, what to do with cookies too gooey to stack, cookies that want to bind together in a sticky mess?
You wad them into into balls and roll them in graham cracker or vanilla wafer crumbs and make truffles! Mmmm...truffles...

Following a six week break, I checked into Twitter today, scrolled for three minutes, then deactivated my account. Break brought clarity. Twitter feeds a spiraling addiction to unhealthy self-righteous outrage, fear, and anger. Continuing exposure spikes cortisol to levels as destructive to the body as they are to the mind. I've been so much better without that barrage of vitriol. I miss aspects of it, but not the toxicity.
Wishing all here peace of mind and happy endorphins today.

@fkamiah17 Before Texas goes blue--or even magenta--we need a much heftier voting wedge of people who want change, will work for it, and will vote for it. This state has been about white male patriarchy and wealth most of its history, and those benefitting from power will stoop to any amount of dirty tricks to hold it. This is why education and women's health especially are unsupported here. The No Child Left Behind policy that started mass erosion of national public education started here.

Cotopaxi,

@StillIRise1963 Yep. But really, crazy is in our rearview mirror. This is surreal, like we all woke up in a checkerboard Dali landscape draped with melting clocks and a sky plastered with giant eyeballs and scissors. The world is tilted on a vertiginous axis, and the only thing that can set it right for me personally will be to see justice done and those responsible brought to account. I thought the Nixon scandals were disruptive and absorbing, but this...this is a whole new level. 😬
