Short story: I have curly hair. But I straighten it for work to appear “professional.” Or I wear a bun to look “serious.”

These ideas were shaped by social norms + experiences where I’ve been the only woman in the room or dealt w sexual harassment/bias.

But when my 15yo niece visited last week, I marveled at her stunning curls. “It just dries this way,” she said.

And it dawned on me - Wait, mine does too! Or would if I paid less attention to cultural expectations. So I think I’ll do that now.

Is there a trick to posting videos to Mastodon from mobile (Android)? I'm trying to post a video but it keeps just… doing nothing, and several minutes later dropping the video in my Drafts. I don't get an error or anything.

I assume it wants the video reencoded or shortened but I don't know what it wants or how to do it on Android

What passed for "horror" in the 1980s was insipid and derivative with unimaginative & predictable plots. (All the camp teen impossible to kill killer movies). Yet perfectly sane and intelligent people think of them as "classics." Want a REAL psychological horror film? Try The Other (1972), Night of the Living Dead (1968) , 1999's The Sixth Sense, or Jordan Peele's Us.

When I worked in a co-op grocery, we had two single occupancy bathrooms. One was labeled “men,” the other “women.” I convinced management to allow me to take down those signs and put up generic “bathroom” signs. But all of the employees except for me continued to use the bathrooms as if they were gendered. Even if the other bathroom was available, the women would wait until the former women’s bathroom was open, and same with the men. Which just goes to show you that people are f’ing idiots.
