Something I truly do not get is the Republican anti-immigrant stance. I mean, I get it as far as what they’re going for, but it’s wrong morally, historically, and economically if you want to be practical. They have so many bizarre stances but the demonization of immigrants is really fucked up.

    Those who stress how their forebears came to the United States legally shouldn’t delve too far back into history: Until the 1870s, when the US moved to crack down on Chinese , there were few if any laws governing immigration--people just showed up and got off the boat. Thus no paperwork and therefore no laws to break.
