The fun thing about security culture is that there are no truly safe courses through the next couple of years.

You can, of course, avoid detection indefinitely by not doing anything and not networking with anybody. But given the growing power of the ruling class, is this actually the safest thing to do in the long term? I'm not sure.

That posture of cautious-but-super-woke inaction might be exactly what the ruling class wants you to adopt.

The pull I've experienced in implementing security practice is an enhanced version of "being your family tech person".

That is you have a number of end users who are reticent to implement security practices for real reasons of inconvenience, general fear of technology (breaking it), and lacc of time to dedicate to learn...

@Adam_Cadmon1 @sidereal Also practitioners (who teach) who themselves only has "power user" expertise when they start, and if they look into it have to DIY themselves to SecDecOps & Sysmin roles without a lot of support (resources).

The error is an inadequate threat model generally. Sure if folks simply don't know and don't want to know enough to keep their tech secure (as possible) then yeah, in person low tech is the only way to go - and that dramatically limits the change that can be made.

The US Govt would not exist but for "militia" (i.e. roving bands of colonizers massacring indigenous ppls, putting down slave rebellions) so when the 2A is adopted its presumed (and explictly in statute at the time) the rights it protects are for colonizers because those are the only ppl with rights.
