Half of all homeless people were in the foster system at some point. Social Workers often call the foster system The Highway to Homelessness. If you ever had a point in your life where you had to live with friends or family to for a short time to get back on your feet, remember that is a privilege that not everyone had.

Britain's record on homelessness is world beating, just not in a good way.

We've the highest recorded levels of homelessness in the developed world; while other counties have seen (albeit slow) declines in homelessness, since 2010 the UK's rate has been accelerating away.

The housing crisis has many dimensions, but here there's a direct correlation between the arrival of the current Tory govt. & massive increases!

The party of landlords is working for them & doing nothing for us!

So the Migrant Advisory Committee, after a 14 week investigation has found 'no evidence' of any deliberate abuse of the international student visa scheme;

they're coming here to study.

As the FT delicately puts it:

this has 'placed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a bind, forcing him to either confront those on the Conservative right who want it scrapped, or ignore the advisory group'!

Again, the DWP have been found by a coroner to have hounded a vulnerable claimant into the grave;

an un-named claimant (reports the Observer) begged the #DWP to deal with her via her daughter, was not (despite six opportunities) registered as 'vulnerable' & found her debt in 'overpaid' #benefits soaring.

In the end seeking escape she overdosed (and subsequently dies).

The UK state's institutions operate at a level of callousness than is inhumane & life threatening... it comes from the top!

Welp, @Menhit has caught a mouse in my office but we now discover the inconvenient fact that she doesn't know how to kill a mouse, so when I startled her she let it go and it ran behind my bureau desk.

(This is the second confirmed mouse in the house since late 2007. Driven indoors by the weather, I guess, because only a madmouse would court her feline attention.)
