JFC, people in tech are really out there saying that language models will be better at therapy, financial advice, and career advice than trained people.

WTF is wrong with you people? Do you really have no clue about what other people’s jobs actually involve?

Language models can’t even do maths how are they supposed to get good at financial advice?

And therapy? Just… 😑

I know you're scared. I am too. AI is already better at writing source code which means I'll soon be replaced by AI. The best we can do now is get our governments to provide minimum living wages for anyone unemployed by AI

Whenever I've used it to help me solve a software engineering problem I'm amazing at the quality of code it produces (specifically chatgpt 3). I've been programming since the '90s so maybe it depends on how you ask the AI.

I'm looking for people who were laid off from "big tech" and landed somewhere that's not that. This isn't for a particular piece for the WSJ, yet. I just want to listen and understand what stories there are here that need to be told. If you're this person or know one, I'd love to hear from you.

I'm not sure what "big tech" is but I've been a programmer since the '90s. I was laid off from a job in 2012 because they outsourced my position to Asia. They did this to all US programmers between 2010-ish to 2013 when they finally closed the office. A few years later they went out of business.

The moral here is that they laid off all of their talent to save money and then went out of business.

I believe similar is about to happen regarding AI..

    Before my annual Ivory subscription expires next month, I’m going to try using it as my main Mastodon client again for a while. I want to see if it’s worth renewing and using over Mona or Ice Cubes.

    I do enjoy the design of Ivory as it reminds me of the days of using TweetBot, but I’ve felt for a while that the features are lacking compared to the other clients mentioned above. Let’s see if that’s changed.

    Peer tube is very confusing to me. I go to the web site and i can't figure out what to do. I see no videos and no place to upload. Is it still in development?
