I'm a just a small town AAA graphics programmer in Chicago. I worked on Gears 5 and Gears Tactics. My work is secret, but my personal projects are not.

I like to post about my personal research, various side projects, and I like to think out loud a lot. Expect weird humor, esoteric ramblings, and occasionally also art I made out of math. I like implicit surface modeling the normal amount. Amateur spoonie. 🏳️‍⚧️

Curses are just blessings with caveats.

You write safe Rust.

I disabled SIGSEGV in my C++.

We are not the same.

In all seriousness, I'd love if anyone had a better solution to this problem. But there doesn't seem to be any SFR bit I can set to make the STM32H7 flash IP not throw a bus fault on an ECC failure.

So if you ever have a bug in your firmware that writes to the same flash ECC block twice without erasing it, that flash block will become toxic and any future attempt to deref any address within it will segfault. Not good if you're trying to make a robust, log-structured data store (in which any bug or unexpected power cycle poisons the entire key-value store, segfaulting future reads).

Turning off faults when writing, or when doing CRC checks on read data, allows graceful degradation when things go wrong.

Still trying to figure out why the bootloader seems to be stepping on non-blank flash cells (it should be appending at the end), but at least it's not soft-bricking the board by throwing the bootloader into a fault handler before it reaches the DFU flow.

Day 10 of 30 CSS animations. I'm kinda cheating this is not just CSS but also some JS. I didn't know what to write as the title...

A card with a parallax effect with images and text (any html element works) + a 3D rotation when hovering.

The image layers are from ansimuz on itch.

🔴 Time Quest is a text-parser adventure Chad Goulding began developing ~20 years ago.

🔴 Now, with his permission & access to the source code & game design document, I'm teaming up with @shdon and Brandon Blume to finish developing the game. 🥳🤩

Life, burnout, depression, etc, has been in the way of new games from me showing up for so long. I am making two though, and one is progressing well right now.

In the meantime, please support us by maybe buying if you didn't. It's on major platforms. 💛

And I apologize to people asking for more languages, it is pretty involved, requiring several people, to add anything to the game, as it was made in the discontinued Construct 1. Also, now it's just been a long time, hah.

I'm trying to re-create that nostalgic feeling of early point-and-click adventures. I did a render in Bryce 7 and it turned out quite well.

Day 9 of 30 CSS animations. More cards effects.
This time I learned about clip paths and applied it to the 'before' green element to cut it into a circle and change it when hovering. Plus some slide in transitions.

A card with some css transition to make buttons appear.

Ok, I’m sorry, I’m going to ruffle feathers here but… I’m trying to read some newer development process books and… oh my… even super popular ones are so immensely long winded and unconvincing in their dogmatic argumentation: this is bad, this is good, because I said so that’s why.

Recent examples that I’m struggling to finish: “Team Topologies” and “Data Mesh” - I mean they might be great but I’m getting strong “this should’ve been a blogpost” feels.

The worst part of Agile and Lean etc has been the wave of folks earning their living telling you confidently how to build while they themselves have barely ever shipped anything.

For those who aren’t aware, Microsoft have decided to bake essentially an infostealer into base Windows OS and enable by default.

From the Microsoft FAQ: “Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

Info is stored locally - but rather than something like Redline stealing your local browser password vault, now they can just steal the last 3 months of everything you’ve typed and viewed in one database.

I got ahold of the Copilot+ software.

Recall uses a bunch of services themed CAP - Core AI Platform. Enabled by default.

It spits constant screenshots (the product brands then “snapshots”, but they’re hooked screenshots) into the current user’s AppData as part of image storage.

The NPU processes them and extracts text, into a database file.

The database is SQLite, and you can access it as the user including programmatically. It 100% does not need physical access and can be stolen.

And if you didn’t believe me.. found this on TikTok.

There’s an MSFT employee in the background saying “I don’t know if the team is going to be very happy…”

They should probably be transparent about it, rather than telling BBC News you’d need to be physically at the PC to hack it (not true). Just a thought.
