Okay, its a terrible picture and its not ironed cause its way too hot to iron. The pattern is straight, fabric is just bundled up under it.

#DeathByCrossStitch by #LongDogSamplers. Stitched on white 16ct aida fabric, using approx 370 metres of black DMC thread, 6 needles used. Final stitched area is - 55cm wide and 69cm high.

This was a labour of love, a challenge, a reward to myself, part of my #MentalHealth journey.

Its done now.

Get this clearly, Florida women have just lost their rights to make their own choices about their reproductive healthcare.
In the year 2024, Female citizens are losing their rights.
All over the country,
Women are losing their rights.
The republicans have lost their minds, saying they don't want "big government" then they go massive and subtract the rights of taxpaying citizens.
Lost their minds.
Women, boycott republicans, if you know what I mean. They want to force their offspring on us. Be aware.

Angus Martin, artist and thinker, said "the measure of your life is the amount of beauty and happiness of which you are aware" rings true for me... these little beauties are blooming. I repotted them in the fall in fresh orchid mix, after trimming their dead roots and here is their response.

No.
I was exposed to Steve Bannon this week, staying with my dying father and watching tv with him. WOW. SB is literally at war, literally with democrats, liberals. His rants include descriptors like "evil" and "unhuman" to name a few. Everything he is saying about "evil unhuman democrat communists" is a projection of what he and his fellow guests are doing. He is obsessed with trolling the Morning Joe program and Rachel Maddow. He loves and promotes Franco.
It's so extreme, so toxic, so bitter and on his show breaks, he sells his special war coffee. Lol. Comic relief.

I have every hope for a electoral defeat of the modern Republicans and their fascist, misogenist, racist, dictatorial and antiprogressive agendas.
However, as I look at how how many people exist across the country who support that pov, I am deeply heartsick and anxious with concern. It is grievous to witness that even in just midterm elections, that people vote affirmatively for the demise of their own freedoms and well being via right wing extreme politicians.
The SCOTUS recent behaviors have added to the great ache and fear of what may be a crushing loss of what I always counted on in USA; which is the "justice for all" ideal and yes, it's an ideal, but I hold onto it, I seek to live by it.
Part of me is preparing for loss. I look to history and look for, "how did people get through authoritarianism" How did people resist when freedom was lost? How did women terminate pregnancy before legal abortion?
Are we in "Don't know what you've got till it's gone" territory? Replies appreciated

I don't think people understand how extremely unusual the huge rise in global surface and ocean temperatures were in 2023 (and now in 2024), how scientists are struggling to understand it, and the growing worry in the science community about what it means.
Here's a new article from one of the world's top climate scientists. Are we in "uncharted territory?"

"We need answers for why 2023 turned out to be the warmest year in possibly the past 100,000 years."

@petergleick is it heating from underneath? It's an uneducated question, but do we look at ocean floors and deep sea contact with hot lava coming up in crevasses or do we just look at atmosphere and incoming solar heat?

How is this even happening that one loser (tfg) is puppetmastering the House and pulling these traitorous moves that threaten the entire worlds' stability by withholding funding for Ukraine to defend itself. FFFS,
It is a nightmare for and ultimately for us, if NATO has to join the war to protect more countries from Putin's greed fest.
Tfg's power trip is destroying the this country and the world at large.
Go away, get out, leave.

Thank you mastodon peeps for bringing the truths... with facts come anxiety/fear... i am caught up in the collective anxiety attack of those watching the coming election and all it means to the future of democracy itself, holding on to basic civil rights, etc. I am completely overwhelmed by what I cannot control. I have one vote.
To cope, I remind myself what goes on after terrible losses. Life finds a way. Flowers still bloom, cats still purr. Little things.

Lightweight, but comprehensible explanation of why Republicans can't admit they are wrong and keep going all in.

Why Is It So Hard to Admit When We Are Wrong? | Psychology Today

    https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/tech-happy-life/202101/why-is-it-so-hard-admit-when-we-are-wrong

Our ego, or sense of self, becomes attached to being right in the same way it becomes attached to various roles, groups, and identities. Being right allows us to feel superior to others whereas being wrong makes us feel inferior. When our sense of self, our psychological projection of who we are, is being threatened, we defend — or even go on the attack. Right or wrong, win or lose, it becomes a zero-sum game.

    Help...
Found out today Dad has late stage mesothelioma in home hospice care, it happened really fast, and claims he won't let any of us visit him or have a funeral. We have a complicated relationship but there is love there. I want to sit with him for even a short time before goes. I wrote begging him to change his mind. My dilemna is do I do what he wants and stay away, or get on a plane and go to him anyway against his wishes?

Here's a thought, maybe it's not just the economy that people feel badly about. Maybe it's a lot more. The pandemic took a lot out of us all and it's only natural we would have a post pandemic grieving period. What was lost? Many families lost loved ones to disease and divisions about masks, etc. Some family members and groups doubled down on beliefs in science and non science, creating more pain and division. Some lost their health, some lost their businesses, some lost social trust. So much more even. I feel it, surely others must also feel a loss. Maybe that's also coloring points of view on economy and other issues. It hasn't been addressed.

Respect. TBH I dont how POTUS deals with all the mess the GOP poo throwers and their deranged dear leader are making while dealing with 2 wars, an upcoming election, keeping up the positive economy and infrastructure messages after having navigated through an unprecedented global pandemic and a botched insurrection. And that's not nearly all. It must be his maturity, because the way they are constantly going after his vulnerable son would be massively challenging to endure. The disappointment that the GOP generates knows no bounds.

Senator Vance stated that Ukraine should end the war and give land to Putin.

You can spot all the Putin-owned assets in our government quite easily.

If Russia wins, it will control 27 percent of world grain exports, approaching twice the size of the EU, which in second place collectively exports 16 percent of the world’s grain market. Not a good plan.

JD Vance says Ukraine should cede land and cut a deal with Putin to end the war-
