Honestly, some people's are just emotional disturbances and personality disorders. I get so tired of people not being able to have a conversation because they have a meltdown as soon as someone disagrees with them. Stop making excuses for people.

I've been pretty impressed with picking up social justice issues but covering like this is in pretty fucking brave. Getting real Anthony Bourdain or oldschool VICE vibes at this point. ❤️ 💔

Alright, Mastodon. What do you think is more important for overall well-being: diet or sleep? Let's say you have to prioritize one for some reason. Which one gets more resources and why?

When you're failing a lot and feeling hopeless, watch this.

She failed every day for six years, until she didn't.

Also note how she says that she sees climbing as learning and she loves the process. Enjoy the process and don't be attached to outcomes. Intrinsic motivation is the killer app.

Depression is a tool. Depression is the world telling you that what you're doing isn't working and you need to change something. It's caused by stress. Stress = challenges - resources and when it passes a certain threshold, you get depressed in order to protect yourself. Step back, re-evaluate and choose a different strategy or tactic. Why? Because you'll feel better if you do and that's what you want: to feel better.

Whoever needs to hear this... If you give up, then things will get worse. That's the second law of thermodynamics. Don't give up. Who knows, things might get better. If you're really #depressed though, it could very well mean that whatever you're doing isn't working. So, change something. I like to see depression as a tool these days. It's telling me something. I just have to read it right.
Signed sincerely, someone who spent decades depressed.

Yo, this is fascinating.

If someone has an intrinsic motivation for something, and you start giving them extrinsic motivation (e.g. money or praise) then it seems like that can destroy the intrinsic motivation so that when you take away that extrinsic motivation then they lose all interest in the activity.

Refusal of men to participate in flirting and courtship with women and rejection of it as "mind games" in preference for acting like a lazy robot in the name of "efficiency" and "clear communication" is actually a not-so-subtle form of .

You don't just dump your feeling on someone, putting them on the spot and forcing them into a decision, especially when the potential costs are much higher for them than you and especially when you don't fucking know each other yet.

Sometimes I feel guilty for having in my profile because nothing ever happens anymore but now a lot of the warning signs for and a very slight are showing up. I have doubts that this is the correct way to interpret what's happening anymore and I'm exploring that but it's basically the same thing that always happens anyway.

Don't worry. I have a concrete plan and support who has been alerted already.

Restarted reading ”The Dark Forest” by Liu Cixin, which is the second book in the Three Body Problem -trilogy.

Refreshing my memory before the second season on Netflix comes out, so I can compare better!

@gimulnautti I've only seen about half of the Chinese one and it's very faithful to the book except one aspect and maybe you can guess that if you read the books and know how China is.

Some of it is exactly how I imagined it though. It also doesn't even leave out all the accurate technical stuff. I've never seen any show do that.

Yesterday I saw a guy in a reply thread saying that the control of the economy by giant government-subsidized corporations was part of the standard "Marxist" strategy of control. These people take what Marxists call "monopoly capital," and call it Marxism or "globalism."
In this view of things it's not capitalism's own internal laws of motion leading to concentration and dominance by finance capital. It's all just George Soros and the Rothschilds and the Globalists, pulling puppet strings in pursuit of a "Marxist" agenda.
I don't even know where to begin talking to people like this, because all of their assumptions about human behavior, and how history and institutions work, are fractally wrong. You'd have to go all the way back to when they learned the alphabet, and start over from scratch.
It's weird that these same people will point to how centrally planned economies can't work -- but they think the entire world is run by a handful of people constantly giving institutions their daily marching orders rather than mostly by things like standard operating procedures, bureaucratic rules and automatic filtering mechanisms.

apodoxus,
@apodoxus@mastodon.online avatar

@KevinCarson1 How you talk to them is by Socratically undermining their epistemology without putting any views of your owns forward. Just keep asking clarifying questions about how they know what they think they know until they realize they don't know what the fuck they're talking about.
