Mastodon really needs to catch up.

"Quote and reply controls appear to be bundled together in a single dropdown menu, where users can open the conversation to “Anyone,” or limit it to “Profiles you follow” or “Mentioned only.”"

So Tusky development is picking up! We have a new social person so community communication should be better, we have a version 25 out and the pace of development has been speeding up lately.

The new version's big feature is it supports the server translation feature; if translation works for you on the web app but doesn't work for you in Tusky 25, we'd be curious to know about it.

If you're interested in contributing to Tusky development (it's Kotlin, which is like Java with fewer semicolons and more closures) the best way to make contact with the development community is to join the Matrix/Element linked in our Github README.

Working in an organization that has adopted Teams as its primary communication tool (though our department still uses Slack), this piece on “Why does Teams make us feel so disconnected?” by Martha Edwards is remarkably astute: https://www.marthaedwards.ca/why-ms-teams-is-not-a-good-alternative-to-slack/

1.2.23 Beta

  • New recent activity in profile pages
  • Recent activity contains new posting behavior signature
  • Match mathstodon.xyz delimiters for latex support (inline and display)
  • Import translations (added portuguese)
  • Improve bottom bar contrast
  • Improved scroll away bar experiment (scrolls away app bar too!)
  • Improve profile page
  • Improve general performance
  • Simplify layouts
  • Fix hashtag highlighting in compose preview
  • Misc fixes

trunksapp,
@trunksapp@mastodon.social avatar

Recent activity lets you quickly see what kind of behaviors and reach a poster/account has!

Instead of using this data to infer what to promote to users, I'm just going to show it to them and trust them to make their own decisions about who to follow.

A new fediverse iOS app called fedicat @technicat (TestFlight) has a feature I’m calling “bloosts” which is a boost and a like in one button. I love it.

Now I want a “bloostmark” that boosts, likes and bookmaks a post at the same time. 😅

Hi friends,

The http://alt-text.org alt text library project needs a new leader, because I have brain cancer.

I would like to connect with the dev community, something I have never figured out, probably in part for neurodivergence reasons. I want to hand the project off to a team or a leader if anyone is willing to take it over.

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the , what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

No wrong answers — I'm working on an article and wanted to get some outside thoughts.

I gave myself 2 years as a full-time to make a living with my own apps. Today marks the end of it! ⌛️

📝 Time to evaluate:

1st year I focused on a single app which Apple sherlocked in last . 😔

2nd year I released 8 apps (9th ongoing), only one of which makes over $50/mo.

My key learnings so far:

  1. Ship an idea fast to evaluate interest.
  2. Don’t get stuck with one idea, pivot.
  3. Don’t stop marketing or sales go down.
  4. Growth…

Hi everyone! From the 8th of May up to + including the 22nd of May we'll be on holiday here at GoToSocial :)

This means we'll be making the Github repository read-only for issues for the duration, and making the Matrix help/general channels read-only too.

We have a tradition of doing this a couple times a year to chill and refresh ourselves, step away from the computers and do more stuff IRL without feeling the pressure to check our notifs all the time, and just generally recuperate, and it's worked out pretty great so far, so we'll keep doing it!

If you need to reach us about anything urgent between the 8th and the 22nd we will still check our email address inbox (admin@gotosocial.org) occasionally.

After the break, we'll start gearing up for the 0.16.0 release, which should be a good one ^_^

Thanks for reading! <3

In this episode of Dot Social I interview Ryan Barrett, a talented bridge builder focused on connecting people across the open web. Ryan ignited a firestorm of excitement and criticism with his latest project, BridgyFed which connects Mastodon and Bluesky, two communities that share a passion for the open social web but are powered by two different protocols.

This might be a bit of a stretch, but do I know anyone who does something like brand identity work? Or who wants to? I'm thinking about stuff like logos, , brand colors, and related. This would be for a personal project, so the budget is small but non-zero.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but I'm getting tired just thinking about the testing path you would need to follow in order to fork mastodon and keep it as an in-place upgrade from baseline.

  1. stand up a baseline mastodon instance
  2. federate with some peers
  3. fill it with realistic data
  4. migrate to the fork
  5. test the fork
  6. test federation
  7. repeat across several combinations of mastodon base versions and other fedi servers
  8. rapidly, during development

This and the Humane pin have the same problem, which is that literally anything they can (or ever could) do can be added into your smartphone for no additional cost, and then you only have to carry around one thing, which can also make, you know, phone calls
