Looking at the issue of the loading screen rip-off, I just noticed my first ever 8-bit game was released in October 2014 (for the #ZxSpectrum 48k), so this October it will be 10 years since I started this... hobby.

It wasn't a great game, barely functional because there were so many things I didn't know, both at hardware level and the most essential #gamedev stuff 😂, but eventually... I got better at it!

#CGAPrints update: Release Candidate 1? I took some time today to test-print a couple of colours that arrived this week, and they seem pretty close. This is the first time I've compared a full batch against colours on a real screen - what do you think?

All 16 colours are different brands and types of PLA, so given access to the complete palette, basically every printer should be capable of making some form or other of CGA pixel art.

Earth's aloof planetary neighbor.

NASA keeps sending astronauts to Mars but they never come back. I mean you'd probably want to stay off of Earth too.

An ancient DOS single-screen platformer that only has its own level design to carry it. You mean there's CGA games worth playing? 4 colors are all you need.

A principios de los años sesenta, los científicos de la NASA detectaron un extraño cuerpo celeste que se dirigía lentamente hacia la Tierra y calcularon un impacto seguro dentro de 60 años. Basándose en las transmisiones de radio interceptadas de este cuerpo similar a un asteroide, determinaron que había sido guiado a propósito. Para evitar el pánico mundial, decidieron mantener este hallazgo en secreto, pero enviar un robot armado para interceptar el cuerpo y exterminar a las entidades malignas a bordo, llamadas con sorna los siete magos.

Ahora, más de 60 años después, la sonda con el robot ha aterrizado en el asteroide, pero no queda ni un solo científico vivo de la tripulación original. Lo único que queda son documentos dispersos encontrados en una caja mohosa en un sótano de la NASA. Al parecer, el robot tiene que ser controlado mediante tarjetas perforadas, y debido a la rotación del asteroide, sólo hay un pequeño período de para enviar la lista de tarjetas perforadas para ejecutar durante la próxima rotación.

every week someone inevitably boosts a toot complaining about how forums have all disappeared after the galaxy went into decline in 2007 which also coincided with their 19th birthday and their last good coldplay experience

this is a shout out to @dosgameclub who not only maintains an active set of forums, but does so with a gorgeous MS-DOS mode co80 theme last seen in dosshell

Sorry, spamming some old BBC Basic programs so they appear in the new @bbcmicrobot gallery.

If you haven't seen it, the new gallery of these little programs is amazing. The thumbnails are actually embedded emulators. In the desktop browser (if it has focus) you can mouse over them and interact with them. e.g. press Escape and type stuff (like MODE 7 and LIST and RUN).
