Young people wanting to eat good food?! What's next?! Are they going to want to get paid more, own houses, take vacations?!

@RickiTarr these kids will never be able to afford a house if they don't skip breakfast and eat cereal for dinner. Such spendthrifts!

I'm thinking about Willpower today! Humans seem to have decent short term willpower, but not particularly good long term willpower, for things they really want. Willpower doesn't seem to be an infinite resource, and is effected by stress, fatigue, and environment.

So what are your thoughts on Willpower? Have you given up something long term that you really loved? What is the hardest thing for you to limit in your life? What is the thing you always seem to cave for?

Just an FYI, this isn't a platform to shame people for bad habits, we all have something we struggle with, we all have different levels of stress, and grew up in different environments. Just for instance, I can smoke a cigar occasionally, enjoy it throughly, but never really crave nicotine, on the other hand, if you were going to tempt me with a loaf of homemade bread, some delicious BBQ, or a well made cocktail, my willpower is much more limited. Human brains and bodies are incredibly complex and no two people are the same.

@RickiTarr fwiw I've found a slight change in perspective is more powerful than all willpower I have.

That said, if someone tells me that I can't do something/something can't be done, that's all the incentive I need. I eat folks like that for lunch 😉

This something that bears repeating, because not too many folks know this, especially getting into the hobby-

A good pair of binoculars costs about as much as a crappy beginner telescope.

Unlike a crappy beginner telescope, you can always use a good pair of binoculars (for astronomy, birding , whatever) no matter how much you get into astronomy, or how big a telescope you end up using. A good pair of binoculars allows you a wide field of view that you can't get with a big telescope.

A crappy beginner's telescope will always remain…a crappy beginner's telescope, and will turn you off from the hobby, and will do the same to the next person you give it to- “I've just got it lying around”.

Yeah. It's lying around for a good reason. It sucks.

maybe with the silly season coming up I'll post some advice on good beginner's telescopes.

here's a composite of the moon, rising last night. We had some wildfire smoke.

The pic is a composite because in order to get the haze/smoke around it I had to vastly overexpose the moon itself. This doesn't quite capture how it looked, but it's a fair approximation.

Part of the credit has to go to my neighbor for getting me out to look. I'm not a big fan of full moons, unless there's a lunar eclipse involved.

So our little (2,450 lbs, 155" long) old (2006), immensely practical Scion xB has 68k miles on it and runs great, but got whacked while parked. Looking for an electric replacement I found the Chevy Bolt EUV, which seems great! Except they stopped making them. Grrr....

It's May! That means it's ME Awareness month, with World ME Day on May 12th!

I'm going to try to post about ME Awareness events over the next few weeks.

This year has a campaign called "Teach ME, Treat ME" which will

"… educate hospital systems and medical schools about ME/CFS by encouraging medical schools to Teach ME, and major hospitals to Treat ME"

Here's the event schedule:

"Christ", muttered Charles, as he unveiled the portrait.

Speaking at the unveiling, the artist said that he wished to explain “two artistic pieces of licence.Yeo said: “One is the colour, obviously, which was inspired by the colour of the bright red tunic of the Welsh Guards.

“The other thing is the butterfly. I would love to take full credit for that but it was actually the subject’s idea.”

Charles laughed and asked: “Was it?"

But student protesters could try a different tactic, ...... They could become investors in the U.S. defense contractors or other companies they want to influence. That would allow them to become activist investors and push for the changes they want to see from the inside as investors
