As a professor of curriculum studies and a scholar of bigotry, I’ve found it shocking how many Americans reduce the Jim Crow period to grainy images of segregated water fountains, bus boycotts and Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous line about the content of character. I have always found it even more perplexing that Americans, when discussing the dangers of fascism, will invoke the memory of German Nazis and not American segregationists. Jim Crow was fascism. So much so that, as law scholar James Whitman points out in “Hitler’s American Model,” the Nazis used America’s segregation laws as the model for their antisemitic Nuremberg laws.
To study the history of Black Americans between the Civil War and the 1960s is to study a mass resistance to fascism.

: A Doctors Without Borders physician went on Sky News to talk about Israel’s deliberate destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system, and the Murdoch shill anchor who was interviewing her asked her if Hamas was active in al-Shifa hospital fighting Israelis. The doctor, Tanya Haj-Hassan, told him “I am just shocked that we’re still having this conversation” and went on to describe how Israel’s assault on Gazan healthcare workers is so methodical that Gazan hospital staff have been changing out of their scrubs before leaving work because Israeli troops are picking off anyone in scrubs.

Biden knew by Oct 27th that the Al Shifa hospital attack was just barbarism and not fighting against Hamas as the WaPo reported. Then in February the British Medical Journal published a Yale public school of health study that the rate of medical facility destruction was equal to that of all other buildings in Gaza.

From Caitlin Johnstone on Substack- Israel is currently doing its usual song and dance where it claims the AlShifa hospital the last three weeks was a Hamas headquarters and everyone it killed there was a “terrorist”, but at this point the only people buying that schtick are the ones who desperately need to. This was a massacre of profound savagery. It’s as plain as day to anyone who isn’t deeply invested in pretending otherwise.

As Palantir CEO Alex Carp recently admitted, the war mongers cannot afford to lose the argument on Israel/Palestine because the entire war machine could be stopped. He was saying this in relation to the campus protests so the next time someone tells you protest achieves nothing, remember this. If protest was so ineffective, we wouldn’t have the likes of Trinity College divesting from Israel.

The focus on elite, coastal universities has overshadowed the breadth of the brutal police crackdowns and impunity for attacks on pro-Palestinian demonstrators. e: If a state power is preventing journalists and human rights groups from investigating the facts on the ground in a given area, then it is not legitimate to give their claims about what happens in that area weighted consideration when their track record and all the facts in evidence say they’re probably lying.
The fact that the western press keep giving Israel the benefit of the doubt whenever reports like this emerge after they’ve been caught in so very many lies means the western press are just as culpable for the circulation of Israeli lies as Israel itself.

Eight years ago, in October 2015, the United States military destroyed Afghanistan’s Kunduz hospital, run by Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders). For more than an hour, a C-130 transport plane repeatedly fired incendiary devices at the hospital’s emergency room and intensive care unit, killing forty-two people. Thirty-seven additional people were injured. “Our patients burned in their beds,” read the organization’s in-depth report. “Our medical staff were decapitated or lost limbs.
