Healthwatch England concludes that the continuing compounded an already severe issue of waiting for treatment & its impact on wellbeing.

Indeed, while in the short-term they are right this may make things worse, lets not forget that political pressure (short of striking) has had little impact on the defunding of the NHS which is a direct cause of delays.

This is a battle for the health of our country.

@ChrisMayLA6 @Davidjackson @KimSJ From the US perspective, I can tell you that you absolutely do not want a healthcare system like the US. It's basically profiteering on steroids for everything from aspirins to surgery, thanks to Big Pharma and massive healthcare provider groups who operate on profit motivation alone. People in the US are routinely bankrupted by what should be routine healthcare procedures, that's what you end up with if you privatize in a capitalistic manner.

@ct_bergstrom Who doesn't love puffins? We got to see a breeding colony of them in the Shetlands a few years ago. They have no fear of you and will waddle right across your toes. They have this way of waddling quickly along then stopping and looking around as though they're thinking "Did I leave the gas on?" Then they'll pat their pockets, can't find their glasses, and waddle off in another direction.

I really don’t know what this is. Is it privilege as a white dude, or living in a leftist bubble here, or a really peaceful community, or all of it combined. I had a couple political posts and posts about climate change on Mastodon that got tons of reactions and the comments have almost exclusively been constructive. Not always agreeing with me at all, which is good. Sometimes even heated, but still 98% decent. This is so rare and I appreciate it a lot.

@bastianallgeier I suspect it's all of the above but mostly Mastodon is truly a peaceful community. I've gotten two or three snarks over the past ten months, but nothing major. There are certainly plenty of folks who are passionate about their interests, but just about everyone keeps it cogent and reasonably polite.

The only Bahama Sun store I've ever been in is the one I am currently in, which is pitch black and in an abandoned mall during a thunderstorm that is making noises all around me that I can only characterize as deeply unsettling. I feel like this one visit is probably enough for me.

May I ask that for one day next week, you missed one cup of coffee (if you buy take out coffee), and you donate that money to a Democratic candidate.

Listen. My husband and I paid off all of our student debts the old fashioned way. When I heard younger people getting relief I could only think one thing:

Thank God someone noticed the huge negative impact debts have. It was one of the best things Biden did. And only fair considering PPP relief and bailout happened.

Going of your way to reverse what was already settled is spiteful. Especially when the PPP relief isn't even questioned.

SOCUTS is full of spite for ordinary people.

@futurebird Back in the 70s I managed to pay my student debt semester by semester by working as a bank teller. I didn't make much but tuition rates were MUCH lower than they are now. I would forgive current student debt in a heartbeat because students today are faced with MUCH higher tuition rates than I was. I'd also be delighted to pay more tax so that we all have decent healthcare and robust public services. Give everyone equal opportunities and it floats everyone's boat, mine included.

@lukito I've got a strong West Texas accent from growing up in far Eastern New Mexico. Years ago I was visiting Bath (UK) when the owner of an antique shop I was browsing asked for a favor (not a naughty one). He put up the closed sign and asked me to read Chap. 1 of the Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey. He'd been a fan all his life and just wanted to hear it spoken with the appropriate accent! Got a good discount on a Roman coin as well!

BTW, I think Trump's news today on federal criminal charges, was the third out of three breaking news stories in the past 3 months that I learned about first on the , and got well informed quickly by credible news sources here. Whereas pre-Elon that role would have been . Frankly that breaking news source would have been the ONE thing Twitter was still uniquely good for then.

@philippe @tchambers Speaking strictly for myself, I find NPR and Reuters reasonably reliable (unbiased). BBC News leans slightly to the right these days but does tend to be objective when it counts.
