Hello again, Mastadon world!☺️🌍🐘 New account, new possibilities!😃 This is my first post from my new account😁 Thought you should know. I’m from Norway and kind of a nerd😄🇳🇴 #introduction#mastadon#norge#norway
The number of times people write #mastadon as opposed to #mastodon is significant. Maybe not as hashtag, but now that I have seen the pattern, it's everywhere.
This thread from Twitter prompted this rant (very long... sorry) on a potential solution for media in terms of how they are funded. The pay-per-article model, despite being tested over the past decade, has not taken off. I'll give my view on why that is later in this thread, but new models of journalism and new social media technologies can provide hope. #News#PayPerArticle#Journalism#SaveJournalism#Mastadon#Fediverse
🧵 …I'm going to take a look at it today. Mastodon uses it, among other things, but how far is it in the so-called real Internet, i.e. capitalism? I myself am enthusiastic about it, but that doesn't mean that this extra effort is supported by customers, unfortunately. What do you think?

Microformats are a simple way to add more meaning to your HTML«
Nearly four days of downtime on this mastodon instance, qoto.org, and it's still broken. There was no sticky warning on the app of the host migration or updates, so I've no clue what's going on.
Is this normal for Mastodon, at least on the non-corporate instances? If so, I don't see the platform having a future. Site owners don't owe us anything, but for users, it's not worth the hassle. Social media can not function like this.
Maybe I should call it quits and set about engaging properly with Bluesky.
Please don't advise me to create my own instance. I have a life and try to live some of it away from a screen.
@hesgen it's normal for free/cheap instances where you don't have as deep a support system.
You can easily move to another instance as #mastadon has account portability.
Or like me, take the time to get off line and do IRL stuff
Serendipity, mine, stumbles into #mastadon. Running scared from mainstream news media, likewise social media machines. Islander (PEI) emigrating to Ecuador. Why? Why not? I need a new guitar. They build them good. I need new fruit I've never seen and can't pronounce. #introduction
With so many people writing #Mastadon instead of #Mastodon, I wonder why nobody has started a Mastodon fork called Mastadon yet. On the first day you announce it, your hashtag will be already trending. Give it a couple of years and people will forget about Mastodon and will think it was Mastadon all along
"lifergeek.social" purchased and DNS is mostly set up. Next up is to clone hambon.es's VM and clean it up to be a fresh install. I'll keep both running for the immediate future, but I'll urge anyone on my current instance to migrate to the new one or elsewhere. #mastadon#hambones#mastodonmigration
How do I get infosec.exchange #mastadon to show sequences of self-replies ("threads?") with the original post first? On the web and on my #tusky Android client it shows me people's self-replies out of order unless I click on one to see how they're threaded. It makes it awkward, when I generally read ~once a day and would prefer to read whole threads in order.
Squeaky.social does not federate with companies such as Meta. We will continue to support a free and transparent network safe from the aggressive and deceptive practices that these organizations use.
How do I report this account for consistent misinformation and racism to the #fediverse? It is importing all the worst parts of twitter. @TheAdmin#Mastadon
I've got a few months of hosting a #peertube instance and have learned quite a few things. One thing that surprised me was that the cost of storage and network bandwidth was not nearly as much as I thought it was going to be. That being said, the cost of hosting a server capable of handling the CPU loads of transcoding a live #stream turned out to be quite higher than I was expecting.
I can afford it but it has me looking at what my plans are for the future with an eye towards cost. (cont'd)
That is going to be the biggest problem with a service like #PeerTube Getting the audience.
Ironically, what it will take from you is promotion. Not paid ads, because the fediverse doesn't really do paid ads, but rather getting the word out among your audience in other services.
It means boosting your PeerTube to your #Mastadon audience, to your #PixelFed audience, even sharing the links on non-federated sites, like Facebook. The best way to get the eyeballs glued is to find them.
