Did you know has a repo for things that aren't in RHEL or EPEL? They remove packages from it if it hits EPEL, but if you've ever wondered what desktop would be like on EL9, AlmaLinux has you covered! It'll also automatically enable EPEL and CRB for you when you enable it!

@passthejoe @vwbusguy I was running Debian 12 on my Intel NUC 11e web dev / intranet server / occasional desktop. I like Debian, but this little box soft-locked on me 3 times in 2 months - still up, returning pings and serving up HTTP Error 403 pages, but sshd and journalctl were dead.

The little NUC was stable with RHEL 9 earlier this year, so two weeks ago I replaced Debian 12 with AlmaLinux 9.2. Rock solid so far. Flatpak is there for things like LibreOffice, etc.

@benny @passthejoe @vwbusguy Hi Benny. It's not very exciting but, I run an AlmaLinux VM on my Fedora laptop for web development. It's then pushed to "production" on my home LAN - an AlmaLinux server running on an Intel NUC. It's become my wife and my "one stop" home page over the years. It aggregates RSS feeds - I have my Linux headlines, she has her blogs, we both have news. And of course, being that I work for the NWS, it has current weather information. 🙂

I've been on a while. But one thing still seems weird to me: Having to ask permission to follow so many accounts, some of them public-facing organizations. It seems a bit much.

My view: if put myself on Mastodon, I"m here to be followed. If you don't like me, don't follow me. If you do something I don't like, I'll unfollow you. Do something really bad, I'll block you.

But let's not assume the worst at the start. Permission to follow me: Pre-approved!

@gudenau It seems much more prevalent here.

@sesivany Ahh, that makes sense. I just wonder how may people coming here from Twitter react to the increased friction without ever knowing why it's there. How many know what Fediblock is? Heck, I don't even know, and I've been here for 4 years.

This is the Chevy Nova 350 of washing machines. Kenmore / Maytag / Whirlpool - the same machine. It's 24 years old. My wife bought it several years before I came along. There's no computer, no wi-fi client, no mystery.

I replaced the motor drive couplet a few years ago and I just replaced the lid switch. OEM part cost: $20.

Finally added Mastodon shortcuts to my personal web page. It's taken me a while to curate the lists, but it well worth it.

@joel It's not public - just running in a VM on my LAN and ThinkPad.

This is not getting the national attention that it deserves.

In short, the era of free over the air TV that goes back multiple generations in the United States may soon be over.

The FCC is soliciting comments on this matter. So if you feel strongly that airwaves belong the people, tell the FCC.

So, nothing like the AC unit going out... 🤦‍♂️

But I did have a couple of old window units in the basement.. 👍

So at least the living room and bedroom can be cooled. 🤔

So I get to figure out what it's going to cost, etc tomorrow. 🙄

@randynose My upstairs unit went out the the day before Father's Day. Finally getting a new compressor installed tomorrow. Hopefully. The supply chain issues are still a thing. Good luck!

    @philbaker1@fosstodon.org avatar

@randynose At least it sounds like the motor is still good. I had a blower motor seize on our old downstairs AC unit, that ~ $450 to replace about 6 years ago. That was cheap builder-basic Goodman.

I haven't commented much on the nearly month-old enterprise Linux saga. But I think this is a positive development.
