Weather and climate change aren’t the same thing, but climate change is creating extremes.

Despite this, Ron DeSantis (R) just signed a law deleting climate change from Florida policy, banning the construction of offshore wind turbines, and boosting fossil fuels.

DeSantis isn’t in the running anymore for President but Trump is and his plan for addressing the climate is if anything worse.

@TonyStark it's absolutely wild. The highest point in all of Florida is 341'. The highest point in South Florida is "Mount Trashmore" in Broward County, which is literally what it sounds like.

Climate change is going to hit Florida first and most.

As we're probably making final decisions for my dad very soon i have to admit, I'm not crazy about having to navigate all my parents' Trumper friends and family. I'm not going to say anything to anyone here because this is about helping my parents and I'm grateful for all the help we can get.

But it makes me sick knowing a few of these people would spit on my non binary child's hospital bed before they'd offer the child the support they're offering my mom and dad.

Hopefully, my dad will recover. At least some. But it's a dark hour.

And if he passes I'll have to navigate the memorial service where most of the family attending will be people I told were dead to me because of their support for Trump.

I'm actually pretty nervous about this potentiality. I mean, his memorial service should be about him.

I'm pretty sure a disinformation troll accused me of being disinformation troll.

I can and am wrong about things though I try hard to be clear when I'm speculating.

I can be and sometimes am a troll though I'm not proud of this.

But it's interesting that this apparently fake account targeted me for saying the is accusing me of "all the hallmarks of a disinformation troll."

Maybe they made an honest mistake.

Or maybe they're defending the GOP.

@TonyStark This guy lives on a fairly busy street less than 2 miles from my house. He's so oppressed.

We can and SHOULD hold Biden to a high standard. In fact, he tells us he wants us to! Worst case scenario he feels like that's what he's supposed to say--great! But I honestly believes he means it, even if he doesn't like it.

Now, honestly, the skeleton seems pretty close to a death threat to me and that would cross a line if true. But it's close enough I'm just going to choose to laugh it off and make sure I vote and everyone I know votes.

I knew my hometown, a fairly liberal place in a relatively liberal state of California and the state capital, had a sharing out-of-state license plate data.

It's almost impossible to control sheriffs in most states because they are elected and answer to no one.

We really need to rethink our capitalistic obsession of running things like a business. Cutting costs to increase profits obviously doesn't make sense in areas of education, healthcare, public utilities, and prisons, to name just a few.

Hell, Boeing is making a strong case that it doesn't even make sense for businesses to be run like a business, much less these public goods...

@FantasticalEconomics I think a major issue is related to the open secret that universities offer degrees. And they often offer business degrees too for the people who couldn't get a real degree.

If your line of work often involves meetings at a golf course you don't actually work. You play a game and the world would be better off if you switched to a more challenging, less damaging game like Zelda or Gardenscapes.

Where do you live and how do you feel about it?

Obviously, don't tell me exactly where you live, no actual addresses please! You can be as vague as you like.

I live in Central Missouri in the U.S.

Pros:

This is an absolutely beautiful place, green rolling hills, lots of rivers, lakes, ponds, and natural springs, cool caves to explore.

Lots of farming here, so great access to quality fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, and dairy.

It's relatively inexpensive to live here compared with other states, because it's a "flyover".

I'm close enough to three major cities, that it's an easy day trip, and I'm about halfway to anywhere in the U.S.

We have one of the best Conservation departments in the U.S. and this is one of the few things that is a bipartisan issue. Lots of awesome nature programs that are free or cheap, state parks, conservation areas, bird watching, hunting, boating, foraging available to everyone.

Cons:

Yeah, it's a big one, it is a RED STATE, while a lot of the cities are blue, there is a large rural population, that votes red. Abortion is not legal here. People often vote against their own self interest.

While I'm not against responsible gun ownership, lots of people aren't responsible, and people have access to guns that definitely should not.

We have very few employee protections here, while the cost of living is relatively low compared with other places, it's taken years to get to a $12 minimum wage, and it's still not enough.

@RickiTarr Miami, technically, unincorporated Miami Dade County near Florida International University.

Pros:
FIU is a majority minority university that is the 4th ranked public school in the nation.

There's an incredible variety of foods and cultures in Miami that are harder to find in the rest of the United States.

The winters are paradise

The Everglades are minutes from my door

Cons:
People don't understand Florida

Then there's other issues that are just awful.

I’ve said this before but apparently it hasn’t sunk in but if you say “Biden has lost my vote”, don’t expect anyone to listen to you or be surprised he’s not out gunning for it. The election is 6 months out. If there’s no way you’re voting for him, nobody fucking cares what you want.

You can enjoy likely a 7-2 or 8-1 conservative SCOTUS that will be grinding down our rights for the next generation or three. Enjoy that.

There's nothing more American.

Hell, I think more Americans should be irate over how Biden handled covid--that's before the madness in Gaza. Be mad at Biden!

But there's nothing less American than voting in way that let's a man who brags that he'll be a dictator become a dictator.

You won't be allowed to be mad at a Republican president.
