I don't want to be more productive I want to feel less guilty for being unproductive

pixouls,
@pixouls@post.lurk.org avatar

Reading threads about morning routine advice on Reddit and just like... if work or school or whatever wasn't a thing... what would our lives actually look like in the mornings? What if we didn't have to push ourselves the moment we wake up with silly little tricks to make our brains ready to be productive and not filled with dread?

pixouls,
@pixouls@post.lurk.org avatar

Even threads within disability communities are like "here's how I engage in hand to hand combat with my disability every morning so I can go to work" and it's just upsetting that we must fight this fight instead of having a world that accommodates for our needs

Maybe hire an archivist to organize your company's shared drive of folders that have been yeeted in randomly, and help tackle the backlog of knowledge that prevents people from being able to go on vacation or retire because no one else knows what they know. It may be low level work in your eyes, but that's also why your problem never gets better when you assign it as a three month project to an intern... once every few years.

a friend told me about two sweet rituals i thought i'd share w u all:

  • every day, go out or open the window where u live, and hang out there for a bit until you hear/see a bird. maybe some days u only hear them, or u end up seeing a squirrel or smth. the idea is that if you bring yourself to be present in a place u think u know well, unexpected things will happen!
  • take more things spontaneously and sometimes arbitrarily to be good omens (see a cool cloud = good omen, leaf fell near u = good omen). this is a practice to both resist the tendency to fixate on things being bad omens (tripping, messin up at work over small things) and shift the idea that the environment is working against u, rather for u

repair cafe was a little slow this time around, but still got some good fixes in! I got to replace some components like the wiring, frame, and ball chain of some lamps. the guys taught me lots about tools and what not i never seen or heard of before. a lady came to me with a radio and ipod. the radio was fine, she just didn't know how to turn it on, and the earbuds she was using as an antenna were probably not too great. the ipod was also fine, but she had said it wasn't turning on. i got to open up an ipod for the first time (i have one of my own that i've been putting off doing this on) and didn't see anything wrong. we plugged it in again and it appeared to already be 75% charged, lol.

Oh boy I sowed these calendula and morning glory seeds on Friday and they're already sprouting!

3/10-3/22, in a zip lock with a wet paper towel in the fridge

Then moved it into this egg carton and placed in a plastic take out container for humidity. Sits on top of two coffee cup lids so it doesn't soak in the water. Currently indoors but once the sprouts get more comfortable I'll start separating them into pots and hopefully get them outside in April! I got the seeds from a seed swap from seed savers so I had no idea if they were still good or expired.

@pixouls@post.lurk.org avatar

it's that time of the season on the northern hemisphere where we watch out for the last frost. keep an eye out for local seed swap or seed exchange events. most of the time you do not need to bring anything of your own!

If you live in the US, this kid is giving out northeastern wildflower seed packets: https://colonialcanopytrees.wordpress.com/boaz-livneys-bar-mitzvah-project/

anywhere else (easiest if ur in the US) can get seeds for food plants: https://www.freeheirloomseeds.org/index.html

have spare seeds? have a solo or social seed bomb making event. make sure to check how these seeds interact with your local environment beforehand. if your seeds are old, you may want to check if they've expired.

My friend Rowan (they/them) is offering virtual Chinese nutrition coaching (and in-person acupuncture if you're in Philly)!
They're super sweet, really know their stuff, and helped me get housing when I was homeless and with a lot of my top surgery questions. You can also book a 1 on 1 call or workshop with them on a variety of topics.

If you're going to learn Chinese medicine, please learn it from someone who's actually of Chinese descent, and even better a trans person!

Huh. My grandma randomly gave me a DXG-202V camcorder. She doesn't need it working but thought I could give it a try. In 2009, this 2.0 MP camera apparently had a $150 value. The compact square design is pretty cute.

When I hit power and press buttons, all the audio works. The screen for a slight moment has some vertical lines, but otherwise then goes black. May open it up and see if any internals are corroded.

Just learned about ! To make up for yesterday, Day 1 of Dec Recs I'll recommend this Chinese short animated series "All Saints Street" with four seasons. An angel, vampire, mummy, zombie, and werewolf live together. What could go wrong? Really enjoy it for the combination of great art, slice of life, and the supernatural. There's also a comic. It's produced similar to "Hey your cat ears are showing" but more memes and skulls than wholesome uwu.

For Day 20 of , my favorite movies that I watched in 2023. Coincidentally, they both take place in the 1980's.
🧑‍🌾 Minari (2020): A immigrant Korean family moves promptly from Cali to rural Arkansas to follow the father's dream of being an independent farmer of Korean crops. Of course, adjusting to their new home is far from easy.
🚕 A Taxi Driver (2017): Based on a true story, this pro-labor movie centers a Taxi Driver on the front lines of the uprising in Gwangju, Korea, thanks to a German journalist seeking to get the message out internationally.

Camp Lost Boys is a sleep away camp for trans men, 18+.
Applications close very quickly... the ones for pennsylvania were open last week and are already gone. Oregon's applications are still up. it was started by two men of color, continues to have BIMOC leadership, designates BIMOC space, and usually has 35-45% men of color in attendance.

https://www.camplostboys.org/scholarship

You can subscribe to the mailing list to hear of future camps and waitlist. this year they're taking place in colorado, penn, and oregon. they move to different locations each year for more options if those don't work. scholarships generally cannot cover the cost of transportation itself.

I just got my third flat tire in the past six months. Am I cursed?

I don't know if it can be patched or not. I won't be able to check in until Thursday

A friend helped me change the tire but god I'm a mess

Mutual aid appreciated rn

pixouls,
@pixouls@post.lurk.org avatar

More bad news for me! Yay!

Turns out I have yet another tire that needs to be replaced, plus two sensors that need to be replaced. The reason for damage is still unknown to me.

I'm looking at $600 (2 tires, 2 sensors). I already spent $450 on the last two flats I got 4 and 6 months ago (all unrelated places and causes). I drive an old fiat model with a specific tire size that is just as costly as buying it elsewhere and shaving it down, so I don't have other options.

Mutual aid seriously appreciated... PayPal, Librapay, and Venmo also under pixouls
