rewarp, to internet

Was thinking too far ahead for so long, how to pipe websites on a remote system to my local machine's Firefox just to help toggle some router settings, and suddenly I realised I could just have used Lynx, the terminal web browser.

Stripped of everything except html, it's bloody fast too. Too bad it took me years to connect the neurons.

    All jokey headlines must now include a disclaimer for the new AI overlords.

    rewarp, to random

    Thanks to high speed Internet fast enough for video, nearly every day since I started consistently watched Democracy Now for 3 years, Amy Goodman has made sure to highlight the latest random killing of a Palestinian civilian.

    Nearly every day, that memory of another dead child, that memory of another dead father, that memory of another dead mother, dead sister, dead brother, dead aunt, dead uncle, dead artist, dead mechanic, dead, dead, dead.

    Every memory is a blessing. And every random murder by the Israeli state firmed up my own psyche unconsciously that these are monstrous people hiding behind the idea of a state, to justify these murders.

    I can't even pretend to sympathise with Israelis here, with their US-funded nuclear bombs and strike fighters and Intel chip foundry built on a genocide that still exists in living memory.

    You can't both-sides violence when it's pretty clear one side has been stoking these fires for decades. As that tagline from that sci-fi show goes, these violent delights have violent ends.

    Microsoft, quietly, has published a guide on how to download and install Linux.

    No... Seriously... It is not a joke...

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linux/install

    The article was published September 29, 2023 (9 days ago).

    The guide provides every option available, too. Starting with using their Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), to using a Virtual Machine, and even on "Bare Metal" alongside Windows.

    That's right, Microsoft now tells you how to dual-boot Linux. 🤯

    rewarp,

    @AlgoCompSynth @ljrk

    It is though? Also I am testing Secure Boot's TPM with LUKs because it's useful for managing hardware with encrypted data on remote servers.

    The tech may be maligned due to Microsoft, but at the end of the day, it's still useful tech.

    Hamas could have always done these acts. In other words the Palestinians were holding back in this genocidal apartheid occupation.

    When Israel keeps murdering Palestinians every day with impunity, I'm mostly ambivalent about what's happening now. It's to be expected.

    White people should be grateful the racial justice uprisings in the US never went to revenge.

    I am trying to figure out IPFS again, and while it is definitely better than a year ago when I tried it and gave up, it's still not as intuitive as it should be when nothing seems to be loading.

    Perhaps having everyone unpin the useless resource sapping NFTs from it would make it somewhat usable? I can't even tell why loading a file hash is so slow.

    What's you opinion on people trying to "gain followers" or "build an audience" on the Fediverse?

    That is the thing that will appear more and more as more people are migrating from the bird site and I certainly see how "having an audience" is useful while also not being moronic (see "influencers")

    I find that dynamics here are very different despite functionality being almost the same at the surface. I'm also quite new to the Fediverse.

    So interested in hearing what more people have to say

    rewarp,

    @tshirtman @sichkovskyi

    Viral posts happen all the time. The difference is you have to follow a critical amount of people to get the viral posts you seek.

    It's a lot more give and take, and it happens naturally.

    Also most of Fedi already know and are tired of the word plays of viral-seeking posts.

    The ones that try to guilt you with "why isn't anyone talking about ..." to the annoying "please boost if you agree".

    Just post when you feel like it and write whatever you want without needing to seem like a product and leave marketing to another Jeff being asked to make viral company ads. I only want to follow people here I want to hear from, not pay my server admin to fund yet another advertising space.

    rewarp,

    @tshirtman @sichkovskyi

    Yeah after a while I just mute them. I subscribe to block early and block often. There are like several million people to hear from so why waste it on someone keen to make it all about them.

    rewarp,

    @sichkovskyi @tshirtman

    Yep. Just keep following more people. Give people enough slack to show who they are. If a vibe feel off, you can mute people for a period of time, then if they come back and that feeling that something is off returns too, unfollowing is probably good enough. Mute if they somehow gain traction as an account.

    Someone a long time ago asked into the void and I happened to hear it, and I paraphrase: a true comrade does not chase follower numbers.

    On my own personal UI, I have turned off the number of people following me, so that changes the paradigm as well. I look at the number of people I follow now as the only indicator of presence on the Fediverse and it tells me how many people I am listening to instead.
