@GottaLaff Keep throwing bogus motions and pleas and whatever to try and delay and hope one of them sticks. Either he will get some traction on an issue, or he'll get something that goes up the appeal ladder and delays (maybe until he wins the election after which he'll claim immunity). In any case, spending a million or so on legal fees to try and escape an $83M payment makes economic sense. But his lawyers should he sanctioned for this cynical, dishonest tactic.

@GottaLaff This is an admission that he is blowing smoke. How can a prosecutor have a conflict of interest with someone who is supposed to be on her side 100% already? If they think she was taking kickbacks for giving him a contract then they don't seem to have any proof of that. Or of anything at all. This is a sideshow they are running as part of the wider legal strategy to delay all legal proceedings to after the election. These lawyers should be sanctioned for taking part in this sham.

The Intercept has published a damning deconstruction of the NY Times' "October 7 Expose".

Notable: The Times' standards editor "stepped back" from his position shortly after the piece appeared.

https://theintercept.com/2024/02/28/new-york-times-anat-schwartz-october-7/

As former Public Editor Margaret Sullivan is quoted in the piece, the Times desperately needs -- no, the public needs -- a public editor again. The paper killed the position years ago, and essentially all accountability with it.

richard_merren,
@richard_merren@mastodon.social avatar

@dangillmor Thanks for the reminder of why I don't generally read the intercept. That was a terrible hit piece, full of "this raises questions" and "I have doubts" with very little substance. If you already disbelieve the widespread rape allegations, and just want another reference point for some kind of argument that the horrific mass murder spree was slightly less bad, you will enjoy this article. But if you are looking for any concrete information about anything at all, pass up the click.

JoshuaHolland, to Israel
@JoshuaHolland@mastodon.social avatar

Unless there's more to it than this story lays out, the allegations made by a far-right gov that sees humanitarian orgs as mortal enemies and is notoriously loose with the facts seem exceptionally thin. A teacher in an UNRA school "celebrated" 10/7 and Hamas kept hostages in an UNRA employee's apt?

Investigating the claim is one thing, but pausing funding when 2 million people are suffering the worst humanitarian crisis in memory is horrific.

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68104203

richard_merren,
@richard_merren@mastodon.social avatar

@JoshuaHolland Of the two examples (both of which are things that a UN agency employee should be fired for) the hostage keeping is particularly egregious. Regardless of your opinions, holding these hostages is a war crime and someone working for a humanitarian NGO participating in war crimes is about as bad as it can get for that organization--it is either complicit, unaware of the complicity in its ranks, or aware of the complicity and completely incapable of confronting it. All bad options.
