The stadium is 8 miles from . When you ask Google Maps how to get there, it first asks you which of the 10 parking lots you meant. 🤷🏾‍♂️

I've no idea about Queens and maybe things have changed in 15 years, but GJ duty was loads of fun. For some definition of fun.

Regular GJ duty there is no questioning beforehand. Your name gets called or it doesn't. They might accept excuses of a medical nature.

Special GJ duty is a different beast and I'm glad I escaped that the one time they tried to tag me for it.

@Andres4NY @organicmaps I had so much trouble with Google Maps offering me bike routes that traversed cemetery roads (behind locked gates) that it was mostly useless for navigating Queens.

    I honestly don't know why it took so long to get my lately ass out of the apartment on Saturday. Finally, finally!, I started about 8 p.m. Thought I'd go to Red Hook, but the moment I finished crossing the Manhattan Bridge, I changed my mind and went to Greenpoint instead. Probably because the spot in Red Hook with the best views is a major PITA to reach after dark because of crappy asphalt and just-as-bad lighting. Greenpoint, though, is easy-peasy.

    So I was woken up this morning by my because he had an earbud nozzle/tip stuck in his ear.

    That's how my Saturday began, using tweezers to fish a piece of plastic out of a kid's ear.

    @Andres4NY That happened to a family member of mine. He was about 65 when it happened.

    His wife couldn't get it out, so he ended up going to the emergency room where they had to find the extra special set of tweezers, the ones that cost like $800 per use.

    @nixCraft Wrote my first couple programs in RSTS BASIC-PLUS when I was in ninth grade. Learned on my own. No idea what documentation I might have learned from. It was fun writing code to do array stuff without knowing how to code arrays.

    After that, three years of programming classes in 10th-12th grade. (My school district was ahead of its time.) Lots more BASIC-PLUS, some Fortran-77, some PDP assembler, etc. Have never taken a programming course since.

    @molly0xfff This is where reading an ebook is absolute murder. I was trying to read Kuang's Babel last month, and all the footnotes got turned into end notes, and the Libby app makes going back and forth from text to end notes a complete nightmare.

    I guess this is how does these days.

    First they require in-person , then they relocate business units from one location to another, and force those who can’t uproot their lives to leave.

    The Apple location in isn’t going away. But they intentionally forced 121 people to choose between moving to , or lose their jobs. Make no mistake, this is a layoff.

    Never mind the fact that is hostile to anyone with a uterus, or is not cishet—why the hell anyone would move to that state? If anything, Apple should be shutting down their Austin office, and paying for people to relocate to a state that better ensures their safety.
