I'm raising lots of kale on our balcony. The cooler weather this week has brought out the blue on the leaves. Very delicious in salads and lots of dishes. Highly recommend for gardeners in San Francisco! Gardening

@kwheaton @gardening Cara Caras are great. I grew them on the Big Island. My favorite is Minneola, though. So miss the fabulous fruit there!

I will stop reading comments before I stop posting.

I think, though, that helping people understand the First Amendment issues at stake in the gag orders is less important than helping people understand that the real danger to democracy is misinformation and disinformation, and these things cannot be fixed through the legal system.

Guess I have to repeat this:

When we get good news (legal, Israel/Hamas, whatever), can we take just 2 measly minutes to appreciate it before blasting it to smithereens and whining about how the good news is really bad news?

People are beginning to sound like the NYT "Blame Biden" headlines every time he has a win.

For your own mental health, accept the wins. Push harder for more, but FFS, good news is rare. Embrace it.

OR, just don't toot me with the whining. I'm trying to stay sane here.

@GottaLaff Glad you are setting boundaries, Laffy. When I worked as an Emergency RN, I got everyone to agree to 'no whining' till 2 hours before the end of our 12-hour shift. Once people got out of the habit of non-stop whining, they often would forget to whine at all!

To all of you whose wonderful, kind, compassionate words and support have been so helpful, I have sad news: Father In Law passed away. Mr. Laffy just called in tears, but there was a small silver lining… FIL got his final wish and died peacefully in his sleep. That was so comforting for all of us. I can never thank you guys enough for your consistent caring and empathy. You’ve been beyond amazing. ❤️💔

Personal note: My regulars know I travel up/down from Calif (where house is) to BC, Canada (where we we got perm resid, lease a townhouse) 6x/yr for a mo. at a time. We split time bc 97 yr old father in law needs us in Calif. He's sharp, but has suffered from congest heart failure for yrs.

He's been weakening over the past wk, nothing imminent, but we're concerned, so we're abruptly cutting our BC trip short, leaving for CA tomorrow instead of 10/26.

💔He needs us.
