Did I say they were? I was referring to "collective ownership (in a strict form) by a community or state [which]...take[s] the form of worker control, complete democratic control" as an example of the working class owning the means of production, and challenging the idea that "collective ownership" and "working class ownership of the means of production" are mutually exclusive.

Mom wants to sing Christmas songs even though she knows I never want to do this. I don’t like music that I’ve heard too often in stores. But she’s stuck on this, so I agree ☝️ provided we learn to sing my favorite Christmas songs too. (My favorite song is ‘Lullaby’ by the NZ rock band ‘The Church’) I almost have the whole family on board. (had to transpose it)

@wjmaggos @LALegault @MayInToronto @DavidBHimself and the thing is, if any threads users comment on your account they are subject to your instances rules so if you see lots of threads accounts on your local feed and they're all transphobic then they are proving the value to the rest of the fediverse of defederating. If the threads userbase is shitty they'll end up like Hexbear and get massively blocked like they did by many of the larger lemmy instances.

So, with genuine curiosity, where's the line between staying on a fediverse that federates with Threads and going back to Xitter?

Sure mastodon/AP is open etc ... but there's a plausible future point where Threads/Meta is so dominant, in a similar way to how mastodon.social is now, that it unquestionable shapes the culture and policies of mainstream mastodon.

It's not like we own our profiles/data here.

So, is there a line and what does it look like?

@maegul Twitter is still run by one man with an agenda, Mastodon will never be controlled by one person. I feel like Meta will do things to annoy the Threads userbase would could have a beneficial effect to Mastodon growth. The way I see it, Threads isn't capturing anyone who would have otherwise gone to Mastodon, at least not in a measurable way, so we should be able to continue on how we like on our respective servers

@flatchulancelot @maegul that would benefit us in the long run though, as they'd either see how much better it is outside of Meta's backyard or they'd get banned from whatever instance they sign up on. Maybe this will push more people to find niche mastodon communities with active admins that you can actually reach and talk to and who might even follow you when you join up

@flatchulancelot @maegul you can help make that happen! If you see a Threads user that's breaking your instances rules, you should report it to your moderation.
Also, to prevent hostility within mastodon, people who want to be on that block Meta/Threads shouldn't be derided. The way Federation works, there is no reason to demand people defederate from instances that choose to allow Threads

Twitter/X is dying. I work with a company that has over 12,000 followers, built up though years of creating & sharing good content, and nowadays posts get almost no engagement, and nearly every new follower looks like a fake account or a new user with no followers. At this point I just wish it would die faster.
