Roman bimbofication (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

apricops: the tendency for racists and white supremacists to go gaga over their idea of ancient Rome is so darkly hilarious because of how entirely wrong it is. It’s not a twisting of some kernels of truth, it’s not a misinterpretation, it’s just the exact opposite, and people in Western Europe has been doing it for so...

Trump Turns New York AG Case Against Judge - by suing him directly. (www.thedailybeast.com)

In a frantic last-minute attempt to derail a trial that threatens to destroy Donald Trump’s corporate empire, the former president’s lawyers have turned the heat on the judge overseeing this case—by suing him directly....

The biggest thing that Trump has accomplished so far is to show that the US judicial system is a joke and that all you need is wealth, the appearance of wealth or the wealth of others in order to circumvent the law.

These Trump headlines are stupid at this point.

It doesn’t show how dumb, arrogant, or ignorant Trump is … they just collectively show how dumb the whole country is to allow all this to keep happening.

Onesimus, a Boston enslaved man, saved hundreds of people from the horrors of smallpox in 1721. His contributions to science reverberate to this day b/c his knowledge led to what became the 1st vaccine-related study in America. Onesimus’s story illustrates the degree to which reputable men of science depended on the testimony & experience of Africans in dealing with a dreaded disease.

🙏🏿Lord, grant me the confidence of a techbro podcast handing out "Go woke, go broke" advice, where the techbros are:

  • The SPAC king that destroyed so much of his investor's wealth
  • The dudes responsible for the Twitter fail that destroyed their investors' wealth

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/chamath-palihapitiya-crumbling-spac-empire-100748788.html

The dudes currently setting potential world records of wealth destruction through their bad ideas, dispensing wisdom about how other people's ideas might cost investors money.🙂🙃

"Woke" means Black people.

When people try to tell me that Conor McGregor is a great fighter, I point out that he has only won one fight since 2016. 2016! 🤷🏿‍♂️

Similarly some of your favorite VCs are only still rich because they achieved escape velocity by getting rich pre-2016. The power of "stonks go up," and low tax rates for the uber wealthy, means it's hard for their worth to go down.

The physics of megawealth buoyancy keeps them afloat, but they haven't had a good idea since pre-2016. Just been blabbing about crypto.

James Cameron made movies in the 90s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. He has winners throughout that time. (Aside: Everyone's running to rewatch Titanic but they should be running to rewatch The Abyss). He makes deep water movies every chance he gets.

He doesn't complain endlessly about "everything is so woke now!" Because his films are still hitting. Even when he gets dragged for making "Water Pocahontas." He just keeps it pushing, and doesn't cry himself to sleep.

Late career failure -> anti-woke.

For me:

  1. Privacy reasons. When a comment is "deleted" on Lemmy, the comment is actually only hidden to all except instance administrators. The comment remains on the post and continues to display the poster's username. kbin is also not a beacon of privacy, but it at least removes deleted comments from threads. This is also why I try to interact more on kbin magazines than Lemmy communities.

  2. kbin has a sweet community search tool that not only searches kbin magazines, but also Lemmy communities and even Mastodon groups. This means you can easily find communities all across the for any of your interests.

  3. kbin has a much nicer/more modern UI. It's got some quirks, but it's easier to read and navigate than Lemmy by default.

  4. Customization options! Lemmy has themes, which is cool, but kbin has themes and lots of fun toggles to change your experience.

  5. Last but certainly not least, Lemmy devs have a pretty shit stance on human rights. (See here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379). There are communities like , which are super friendly and non-problematic instances separate from the Lemmy devs, but it's worth noting that instances like Lemmy's flagship instance and Lemmygrad are run by folks with some grossly misguided views.

Whenever moderation gets sorted out for some of the bigger instances, this practice of changing the headline from the news site has to be one of the first things established in the community guidelines.

This sort of slant belongs on other instances.
