Logging hasn’t truly stopped in Victoria

"Whether for fuel breaks, salvage logging, or private land logging, native forest logging hasn’t stopped in Victoria. It will continue for many years, and the logs cut from these operations will be sold commercially."

"Much of this logging is not be fully regulated, as the Office of the Conservation Regulator is in the same department as the one conducting fuel break and salvage logging. It is difficult for a government department to regulate itself. This regulator also has no power over logging on private land."

One of the best things about old skool pre-Elon twitter was its weekly twitter chats.

My fav was (eg ). A weekly host asks one question prompt every 5 mins for an hour, and participants respond with their own answers using the hashtag. Conversation ensues.

I’ve generally abandoned my account there, but have agreed to host one last time this Weds 3/27 at 6pm PDT to celebrate its 10-year anniversary.

If I posted each question here too, would you participate?

I first saw Carlsbad Caverns as a teenager. It ignited my passion for national parks. There is a reason the surreal world is a national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You have to see it to believe it.

In 2018, I finally made it out to the Racetrack in Death Valley National Park to see the “sailing stones.” I first remember reading about the bizarre phenomenon as a kid and it immediately went on my bucket list, so it was great to finally make it there.

It seems like the mystery of these moving rocks has finally been solved, though: https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/the-racetrack.htm. Yay science!

@elaterite I had always been talked out of going in my Subie by tales of the rough road.

Of course, that was just to keep the Vegas tourists with their sedans and crappy rental car tires out.

So when I finally found myself there in a friend’s 4WD truck, we made the trip. Holy sheeet it was windy that day!

@elaterite Most of the rock trails were pretty faint when we were there too, though we were able to find some pretty deep ones.

I've mostly spent all of my time at DEVA in the touristy areas, so I really would love some backcountry time. Maybe I should prioritize that on the next visit, maybe even rent something to make it happen.
