@stux Well, I think that’s no surprise. The ones who check daily are more likely to see and vote.
Imagine 100 people who check daily vs 700 people who check weekly. If the poll is running for 24h the tally would come up 50:50 which is not representative of the larger numbers. 🤷♂️
Every modern XMPP server supports XMPP over HTTPS (via BOSH or Websockets) and it works just fine.
But I wasn’t actually taking about integrating it in the UI of the fediverse instance itself. Which would be nice to have, but really not vital at all if you have a nice mobile chat client.
I'm just a humble country chicken admin, but I've been thinking a lot about the cost of the fediverse and how we can improve it for all of the instances... in a coop kind of way
The cost of handing all of the media is THE major problem for me atm.
@shlee@Tubsta@decryption almost all colo providers will charge the same for IX / transit traffic. You are effectively buying at a “blended rate”. Transit is now so cheap that unless you are doing more than 1 gig/s sustained it is not worth getting your own ASN and ip range. At the current trend I’d even suggest not bothering below 10 gig/s.
I’ve built a few ISPs and colo networks over the years, I’d be happy to sit down with you and run through the economics of transit , peering and the different price points where changes in network design makes sense.
Let’s take a brief moment and gather for our #KoffeeWithKyle chat and discuss what we have planned for our day.
I’m starting my day with coffee of course and watching the Monaco GP. Hoping Leclerc can get a win. Rest of the day is pretty clear. I do have to do some school work as Monday is the last day for the current class.
The one thing I don't quite get about the #Fediverse is why we even need different software. For example, why can't #Pixelfed just be another - more sophisticated - frontend for #Mastodon?
... finally moving from insta to #pixelfed because, well, Meta's announcement about using insta 'content' (I hate that term so much!) to train their creepy generative AI was the last straw. Yes, it SAYS you can petition for them to not use your stuff, but... do you honestly believe they'll back off? Nah. #fuckzuck2024
Laura, you might have seen this recent piece in DigiDay on why some publishers are investing in connecting their sites to the fediverse.
It appears this line of reasoning applies to Scientific American as well, and more so, because the Fediverse doesn't have a middle man with their own (perhaps anti-reality) agend. A publication focused on the facts will find it a better channel to their audience.
