Since the publication of this story on May 7, the worst natural disaster in the history of #RioGrandedoSul has registered 100 dead, 128 disappeared, and over 1.4M affected. Sums that seem underreported when one sees the images of entire cities underwater.
More than 100 people are dead and 136 people have been reported missing in Brazil after unprecedented rainfall devastated the state of Rio Grande do Sul with flooding. The Brazilian government is warning residents that more rain is expected. Rescue efforts were suspended on Wednesday in the face of continuing precipitation and winds exceeding 50 miles (80 Kilometers) per hour. USA Today has more on the disaster.

However, for it to be considered permanent it has to be the average for a decade or two (they are working to adjust this) but at the moment, as mentioned above the 5-year average is +1.3.
