A spinout from Oxford University has concluded that due to a lack of incentives, the UK is the 'least attractive' of the countries it is considering for a plant to manufacture its highly efficient perovskite-silicon cells for panels. The plant is likely to be located in either the US or Germany.

Its an old story of UK advances in being capitalised on elsewhere, now compounded by a Govt. with no strategy & a weak commitment to !

Anyone have any experience running solar thermal and/or heat pumps on private water supplies (i.e: low pressure)? Can it be done and is just less efficient? Did you need an accumulator to raise the pressure?

I had no idea that the energy network in Lebanon was in such a poor state. However, solar panels are allowing those with enough money to bypass expensive, polluting diesel generators in favor of clear, reliable electricity. I also appreciate the point at the end of the article about community projects, which I think is very important.

Solar Powered “Artificial Leaf” Produces Clean, Car-Ready Liquid Fuels From Sunlight
University of Cambridge scientists have developed an ‘artificial leaf’ that, powered by sunlight, converts CO2 and water into ethanol and propanol. This innovation eliminates the intermediary step of producing syngas, making the technology more practical and paving the way for a sustainable, zero-carbon emission future.

A clickbait article about a town's pushback against farms nearby is making the rounds... but it speaks to a much bigger & more important issue.

The town would be surrounded by these huge farms using up land, but would get 0 tax benefit or any reduced power costs.

While the public gets to suffer the brunt of corporate greed, pollution, etc... funny how we don't also get to benefit from the positive progress. From automation & AI, and whatever else is around the corner.

Done!

They arrived about 10am, and just left now about 6pm. Four guys doing the install. We have 10 panels, five on the front and five on the back of the roof so should get good coverage, and a 5.5kW lithium battery. Alas they finished as the sun was going down so there was barely time for it to charge, but the battery did charge to 20% while they were hooking things up to it. We also have an app to check everything.

Scientists in China and the Netherlands say they have collaborated to create solar cells that are made of the same material as 95% of current solar cells but are 26.81% more efficient.

The new solar cell uses a "nanocrystalline-silicon hole contact layer" that can transfer electricity with far less resistance and results in a higher power conversion efficiency.

Good news if true! 😁

From water saving to clean energy: Here’s why floating solar farms are booming in the US.

This technology is already popular in Asian countries where free land is scarce and expensive but now it is taking off in other parts of the world.

Producing electricity uses up huge amounts of land and often generates vast quantities of climate-heating emissions.

But what if it didn’t need to?

Floating solar panels are a simple concept but they could provide the answer to these problems - and prevent water loss from evaporation at the same time.
