Anyone else's Google Assistant going crazy? On my OnePlus 12 and my Pixel tablet, this survey notification is replicating like crazy. Keep wiping them out, but they keep coming back.
Is Wayne Brady gonna have to Mute Assistant notifications???
I received two emails late last night from a user of my #Thunderbird extension.
The first read, in total, "WHY AM I GETTING HUNDREDS OF NOTICES!!!!"
The second, a bit later, read (again, this is the entire message), "JEZUS FUCKINNG CHRIST THE MESSAGES" #smdh#TechSupport

A quick check in on the Xiaomi 14, and while this is an awesome camera, it turns out I TOO have issues with condensation and the lens fogging up. Has YOUR Xiaomi suffered similar issues? Has Xiaomi fixed or exchanged your phone?
What do you use to back up local files from Linux to external hard drive?
I have been using rsnapshot, but maybe there are better solutions out there?
Does anyone have an experience with btrfs and snapshots? Do you trust it?
Is there a Chrome extension that reproduces Microsoft Edge's ability to copy a website's URL as its title, hyperlinked to the page's URL? #Browser#TechSupport
Uh, anyone knowledgeable about li-on batteries here? because I'm worrying if a month of 35-40C temperatures (can't use the AC in my room till its cleaned ; _ ; ) will severely affect a smartphone battery's lifespan
I desperately need a piece of software to scan my windows 10 computer to see if the system or anything else is actually wrong. This computer is unbearably slow all of the sudden, with no obvious reason. Preferably something that is free because I am poor. #windows10#TechSupport#computer#computers
A capable colleague passed on a request from their client. They want to know if the VM disks are encrypted at rest, if the keys are rotated periodically, and if there's a key retention procedure in place. Ironically, the client's VPS runs on Ubuntu 18.04, which has been out of updates for a year, and despite numerous notifications to upgrade, they believe it can wait. 😄
Hopefully, this is a less embarrassing post than, "How do you log into Windows without a Microsoft account?!"
On #Debian 12 (#KDE, #XOrg), my #TuxedoComputers laptop with a German keyboard is having issues with a single character. The "^" symbol, the primary character on its upper-left key, just doesn't like to be detected. On the same physical key, the "°" is immediately input into any text box when Shift+[key] is pressed, but it takes two strikes of the same key without shift to input the "^". This behavior along with this issue not being present in other distros shows it's not a hardware issue, and all other keys are behaving properly
Has anyone else had this issue or have an idea of how to fix it? I can't find anything on StackOverflow, Reddit, or the Debian forums.
Hi! I'm Kelsi Lyn Star. I go by she/her pronouns.
Most people call me Star if they met me online. I used to go by xxbabygirlstar or xxSupernovaStar, so Star has always followed me somehow.
Other people call me Kelsi because they either know me IRL or they just wanted something more personal than a gamer tag.
Few people call me Kelsi Lyn.
My dog's name is Daxter. :kelsilHeart: :kelsilAngel: :kelsilParty: :kelsilPlead: He's a rescue I got at 8 weeks old. He's NINE YEARS OLD and I want to freeze him in time before he gets any older. He is my best friend. He is never very far from where I'm sitting... unless someone has food nearby. He's a melon. He's a #mutt too, but I do know he has some Australian Shepherd, Shetland Sheepdog, and Golden Retriever in him.
I'm 30. I'm currently, temporarily living with my parents in #NorthCarolina, following a pretty huge depressive spiral after losing my last job. Otherwise, I live in #Tennessee with my boyfriend of almost 3 years. Apparently I haven't lived there long enough to spell the state correctly yet, spell-check always corrects my dumb ass.
I love to love everyone. I'm a #demisexual#pansexual --basically, if I love you intimately enough, I wanna get in your pants... But my bf and I aren't poly, so sorry, I have to stay out of your pants. Bummer.
I #stream vidya games on #Twitch. (https://www.twitch.tv/kelsilynstar)
I have a schedule (Tues/Thurs/Sat) but I'm just getting back into it after being gone for 4 years, so everything is up in the air, subject to change. Right now, I'm limited to my #NintendoSwitch on my temporary set up, but I do want to branch back out eventually. I swear a lot, and try to keep my community pretty chill and inclusive.
I'm #ADHD & #bipolar (#type2, the shittier, sadder version with less mania) but on pretty reliable meds so I've been pretty damn balanced lately. I am all about talking about mental health and try to learn as much as I can.
And speaking of learning, I love to teach people things I've learned. My last job was a #TechSupport#Trainer for Corsair, but my job got moved to California and I couldn't go with it. I spiraled hard after that because I really did love that job (even if it didn't always love me). But I will still be teaching people anything I know about, because that's just who I am as a person. I try to meet everyone where they're at and share new things with them in a way that makes sense.
I like to talk a lot, but I think I've rambled enough here. Hope to get to know more people, because I'm lonely as shit! No one is a stranger in my book, just people I haven't met yet. Come say hi, I don't bite... usually.
Help Desk Workers: don’t just fix it. Help the customer/user understand:
what happened,
how to prevent it from happening again, and
how they might independently fix the problem if it does happen again.
(Unrelated side note: this tech support issue was resolved over Facebook Messenger. I have clients who contact me via telephone, email, SMS, FB Messenger, LinkedIn Direct Messages, Signal, and WhatsApp. If you do this for money, let your customers contact you any way they want to).
Two more months until Google Podcasts dies, alas. I don't like Apple Podcasts and need Android support, too. What apps do you all like? I need to queue podcasts, skip forward 30 secs at a time, and download selected (not all) episodes for offline listening. https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/answer/14151168
Does anyone have any experience in trying to provide free wifi for houseless encampments?
A bunch of people at one encampment around here are really only a few blocks away from a library with public wifi. I'm wondering if there's some way to extend the library's wifi with a directional antenna or something (with the library's permission, of course) but I don't actually know much about this sort of thing.
Does anyone know how to force macOS to sync (iCloud) contacts? There does not seem to be a "refresh" or "update" command in the Contacts app. #macos#techsupport
It's amazing how often the phrase "this software sucks", is used in place of "I don't fully understand how to configure this software properly, or how to use it".
I've been recommended some communities on Lemmy servers, but when I go to kbin.social/m/community_name@server, I get a 404. What do I need to do for a community to get federated?
Client call in panic mode. CRM software techs logged in and filled up the disk.
With 50GB free out of 100GB, I wondered how that's possible. They wanted to copy the entire directory to another for "safety".
Explained I could backup and restore if needed in seconds. But no, they had done as they said. Result? Disk filled, everything halted.
I'm out and about.
Proxmox doesn't let me modify virtual hardware through its Android app or limited mobile web page. Desktop site request doesn't help, layout's all messed up. In emergency mode, I set up an xrdp FreeBSD jail with Mate and Firefox, connected via VPN on my smartphone, accessed the client's Proxmox.
Added a virtual disk, extended the LVM, and the underlying XFS filesystem.
Total time? A blind 10 minutes.
Triumphantly, I call the client (who knew I was away from a computer) to report success.
The naive response: "Okay, but all this time just to expand a virtual disk?"
Octagenerian Ubuntu fixed and ready to return to owner next week
One of the things I love about helping very young, or agreeably less young people with their computers, is that you really get to see the edge-cases; which are aften not far from happy paths.
Ubuntu pro had this person very distressed that they were about to be "upgraded without consent" from 22.04 LTS to something they'd need to pay, un unspecified amount for.
How to add federated communities to kbin.social?
