🛡️ When you are keen on web privacy, i.e. anonymity, what do you use? Is there actually a difference for you between @torproject, @i2p, @Freenet and and is their use important to you? Multiple selection possible.

(please share this survey, thank you :BoostOK:)

Recommend to have the "Upvote" or Favorites list be hidden.

Currently, each thread has the "Activity" link that shows publicly everyone that upvoted/favorite a thread. This is counter norm to many coming from Reddit and newer folks that expected otherwise. I think hiding the list should be high priority in next feature update(removal?) to encourage frictionless upvoting behavior....

Es gibt verschiedene Gründe dafür: Ihr wollt eure Anonymität wahren oder einfach unnötige E-Mails und Spam vermeiden, die oft mit einer Registrierung bei einem Dienst einhergehen. Die Lösung: 👇

Testing... Testing...
First time tooting from :blobcatsunglasses:

I am trying to move as many of my casual browsing as possible to Tor to reduce my fingerprint. Not to "hide" but to become even more harder to track by nasty, disgusting .
Reading news, I feel like they became more shameless recently so I despise more their attempts to squeeze and monetize every bit of they touch. And I am willing to starve them of my data further than before.
If they are ready to break the laws and count EU GDPR fines as business costs I guess data are valuable. So why not keep this precious thing for myself? :blobcat_amused:

If some pages will block me, it may be signal for me they aren't respecting users and maybe I should stop visit them :blobCat_devil:

I don't want to make these disgusting entities richer and stronger. I don't want participate in this.
I am not "digital biomass" or "free data mine".
I despise what they did to the web.

Maybe I don't have do this for Mastodon, I personally know my admin :blobcatjoy: I am simply doing some innocent tests.

We are conducting a study where we need to keep audio recordings of participant evaluations. Can anyone suggest how the voices in these recordings could be distorted so they could be anonymised? I thought it is an easy problem, but similar questions on several platforms remain unanswered. @dataGovernance @datasovereignty

Will end double-blind ?

Double-blind peer review was never truly blind. "Experienced researchers can often correctly guess from which [person or] research group an anonymous submission originates." Now AI can improve the accuracy of those guesses. "Our method achieves an unprecedented authorship attribution accuracy, where up to 73% of papers are attributed correctly."

When we teach WW1 history and show photographs of men in the trenches, and no one knows if they are real or midjourney fake then we are in deep trouble. Or teach scientific principles through research papers and don't know if the text is authentic human created or response engine output, we are in deep trouble. Imagine a hundred other contexts and you understand why gen ai is such a massive problem.

@DrPen Human autentication are going to be very necessary very soon.

But the problem is, people won’t start to want them until it’s already too late. And when that happens they’ll be ready to sacrifice their privacy for convenience.

When privacy is gone, we’ll be at a risk of losing democracy as well.

That’s why we need to start NOW and develop that ALLOWS for !

: "Tor is a valuable tool for browsing the web anonymously, but since it's powered by volunteers willing to share some bandwidth and a computer, it's always in need of additional help. Which is why EFF is announcing the Tor University Challenge, a project asking universities to start running Tor relays on campus. Today, we're launching with support from 12 universities. With your help, we can add more universities to strengthen the Tor network to improve one of the best free privacy tools available today.

In 2011, we launched our first Tor Challenge, which resulted in 549 new relays. By 2014, after we launched our second Tor Challenge, we had counted 1,635 new relays. This time around, we're focusing on getting more Tor relays onto college campuses. Universities are especially well-suited for Tor relays because they often offer fast internet, have lots of technical expertise available (including professors, students, and IT teams), and value freedom of expression. Setting up a Tor relay on your college campus will help make Tor faster and better, because the more relays that exist, the better the experience of using Tor gets for everyone."

It occurred to me that in the same way we use census data collected 100 years ago to trace our ancestry and family history, our great grandchildren may have access to the data being collected by Google and Apple and the Government about us now.

The Tinder account you had while married.

The location tracking data that puts you at a specific event like a civil rights protest or January 6th or even a major concert or sporting event.

The contacts that were stored on your phone and all of the emails and texts you sent and received.

Your photographs of cats, bags of weed, and yourself.

AI generated versions of your voice.

You may not be an important historical figure but your descendants will have more information about you than any descendants of royalty have now.

Will history remember you fondly?
