💬Excerpt from an interview with Jane Jensen refuting the so-called experts of the time who claimed that the main drawback of adventure games is the inability to replay them once finished.

32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic.

You can play Wolfenstein 3D FREE in browser here: https://dosgames.com/game/wolfenstein-3d) and you can also download it free and run it on your own machine via DOSBox. Wolf 3D is also on Steam (https://store.steampowered.com/app/2270/Wolfenstein_3D) for a few bucks, and on the Microsoft store (the port of the 360 version). Now if they'd only port it to Switch! 😂

Happy birthday, B.J. Blazkowicz. 🎂

Players and fans of Nethack, any idea what this blue thing is?

Update: Grug is dead. When I'm playing Nethack, sometimes I like to do random weird things to see what they do. Ran across this crazy shop with all this wild stuff and I just decided to attack the shopkeeper. Why not? He killed me with a magic missile, of course, but I dug this list of creatures I vanquished.

WinDoom is an early port of DOOM v1.8 for Windows 3.1x, made by Gabe Newell and Robert Hess. It used Win32s and WinG APIs to enhance graphics and sound, and supported MIDI music. It had some technical issues, but was playable. WinDoom was never released and was replaced by DOOM 95, which used DirectX and was a showcase for Windows 95.

It was great to see John Carmack and John Romero reuniting for DOOM's 30th anniversary.

Highly recommend the books "Masters of Doom" and "Doom Guy" for those interested to learn more about the early days of id Software.
