32 years ago today on May 5 1992, one of the greatest games of all time (and forever my favorite first person shooter), Wolfenstein 3D, was released. I wrote about it for the list of 20 video games I can't stop thinking about (https://spacetimetech.wordpress.com/2024/04/06/20-video-games-i-cant-stop-thinking-about). I still play it regularly. Sometimes weekly. Killing digital Nazis is always fun and therapeutic.
Freedoom is a free and open-source first-person shooter game using the DOOM engine. Initiated in 1999, it aims to provide a complete game experience compatible with custom levels, music, and graphics from the DOOM community. Version 0.13.0, released on January 29, 2024, offers enhanced compatibility, removal of Boom features, bug fixes, and new content. This video shows Phase 1.

Jetpack: Christmas Special! is a freeware edition of Jetpack, published in 1993 by Software Creations. In this game, the player takes on the role of Santa Claus and explores Christmas-themed levels, collecting gifts and presents while facing various challenges. It features a level editor and supports up to eight players using a keyboard and/or joysticks.
Update: Grug is dead. When I'm playing Nethack, sometimes I like to do random weird things to see what they do. Ran across this crazy shop with all this wild stuff and I just decided to attack the shopkeeper. Why not? He killed me with a magic missile, of course, but I dug this list of creatures I vanquished.
WinDoom is an early port of DOOM v1.8 for Windows 3.1x, made by Gabe Newell and Robert Hess. It used Win32s and WinG APIs to enhance graphics and sound, and supported MIDI music. It had some technical issues, but was playable. WinDoom was never released and was replaced by DOOM 95, which used DirectX and was a showcase for Windows 95.

Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold was released on December 5, 1993 (30 years ago today!) by Apogee. It's an excellent first person shooter similar to Wolfenstein 3D.
Today (December 3rd) in 1993, Duke Nukem II was released for DOS. 30 years of this killer installment of the king. It's only one of the greatest platformers ever made.
