Scientists have mapped one of the most hazardous spots on the globe in unprecedented detail: a 600-mile geologic boundary just off the #PacificNorthwest coast.
Along this fraught stretch, called the #CascadiaSubductionZone, 2 pieces of the #Earth’s crust slide against each other, building up stresses capable of unleashing a catastrophic 9.0-magnitude #earthquake & generating a #tsunami, w/waves as high as 40 feet.

A new study shows renewables yielded $249 billion in climate and health benefits!

This windfall of benefits from 2019 through 2022 is thanks to wind and solar generation increased by about 55% in the U.S.

The U.S’s use of wind & solar power cut its CO2 emissions by 900m metric tons = equivalent of taking 71m cars off the road every year.

This is why we advocate; this is why we fight the good fight. This news brings me joy!

Mass adoption of clean energy requires massive energy storage, and we’re getting closer! 👇🏼

Thanks to a MIT spin-off company, we have thermal ceramic bricks capable of storing heat for DAYS 👀.

These ceramic bricks can store heat — at temperatures up to 1800 degrees Celsius — for DAYS that can then be used to convert the energy back to electricity when needed.

We have the technology, the money & the resources!!

Exciting! This is the next level of biodiversified farms: solar panels spaced among agricultural crops & planted with plant species that increase biodiversity. 👏

The parcel of land will have a 54 MW agrivoltiacs facility that will:
— host species
— provide as a wild animal shelter
— feature amphibian ponds, baths, nesting boxes, & breeding places to protect endangered Lesser kestrel

Win-win-win!!

« The belief that we can manage the Earth and improve on Nature is probably the ultimate expression of human conceit, but it has deep roots in the past and is almost universal. »

Oi, Fediverse!

I’m mostly listening to the following bands right now, I suppose kind of drone / doom / stoner / dark ambient . It’s kind of comforting, like being under a very heavy weighted blanket with a sleeping mammoth on top of it:

O))), , ,

Based on them, is there any music you’d recommend I check out? Thanks!

If you’ve noticed a green-colored flash with the sun on the horizon just after sunset or before sunrise, consider yourself lucky. What causes these brief, rare and colorful spectacles? They’re the result of sunlight being separated into different colors, an optics researcher at the University of Glasgow explains. Live Science has more, including how and where you will more likely to see a green flash at dusk or dawn. https://flip.it/FDQgx2

Truly amazing record run of renewable energy carrying 100% of California’s grid for portions of the day:

43 straight days — and 67 out of 73 days — where clean energy exceeded 100% of demand.

5th largest economy on the world, 39 million people and over a million EVs on the road here.

Right now renewables are producing 103% of demand and it’s 3:30pm here. It’s just amazing and should bring immense hope around the world!

Let's raise children who can name plants and animals, not celebrities and brands!

By prioritizing a nature-oriented education — alongside other forms of learning — we can raise a generation of individuals who are not only well-informed about the world but who are also motivated to protect, preserve and nurture nature for future generations!
