"I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have," said Hinton, who had been employed by Google for more than a decade. "It is hard to see how you can prevent the bad actors from using it for bad things."

pioneer and Turing Award winner Geoffrey Hinton quit and is now speaking about the dangers of his life’s work. Right now his biggest concern seems to be , as people will “not be able to know what is true anymore.” On the companies involved in developing this technology, he said, “I don’t think they should scale this up more until they have understood whether they can control it.” https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/01/technology/ai-google-chatbot-engineer-quits-hinton.html

and content is a cancer regarding this. People are just rrying to go viral and do the same stupid stuff over-and-over and just hope they get the next trend. Whether it is to get others to drink tidepods orbto steal a Hyundai belinging to someone just as a joke.

But companies like , , , , and are exploiting this because they are generating clicks, and they can show people ads. This is why they don't moderate these things.

The messed-up thing is that they then moderate and remove legit creators for stupid reasons and false copyright claims.

Social media is broken because it now has longer existed. It is just a bunch of advertisement companies with extra steps.

Many iOS users report losing their 2FA codes after updating their Google Authenticator app. Meanwhile, Android users took to Google Play reviews to complain about the lack of end-to-end encryption.

A screenshot of the Google Play Store app showing multiple one-star reviews of Google Authenticator users disappointed that the app does not use end-to-end encryption when syncing 2FA codes to Google Cloud.

koherecoWatchdog,

@vfrmedia @jwildeboer I not only refuse to patronize & ; I also refuse to send to & recipients. I go as far as an MX lookup in case their vanity address points to the server of a surveillance capitalist. It’s not perfect though b/c sometimes forwarding masks the role of google & ms. I also do not share my email address w/such users. So I rarely anymore.

Search have now completely removed their dependence on MS Bing's API for search results. Results now come 100% from their own crawler:

https://brave.com/search-independence/

Not only do they have one of the most private search engines, it is now fully independent. Search engines not tied to either Google or Bing crawlers are good for the web in general. 👍
