If you are a citizen of a European Union country, you can vote in the EU elections, even if you live outside the EU. You can use any EU country polling facilities (I haven't tested it).
In Australia, Poland is opening polling booths in Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Perth on Sunday, June 9th, 7am-9pm.
#EU foreign ministers urged #Hungary on Monday to stop blocking measures to provide billions of euros in military aid to #Ukraine, as long-simmering tension with #Budapest boiled over.
#Lithuania's Landsbergis said Hungary was blocking decisions on EU military aid to Ukraine, the start of EU membership talks for Kyiv, and on #Georgia and #Armenia.
"We looked into this and apparently about 41% of resolutions by (the) EU on Ukraine have been blocked by Hungary," he said.
On June 9, #Hungary is going to the elections. Citizens will simultaneously elect members of the European Parliament, as well as local authorities throughout the country.
This vote is almost guaranteed to cause a sensation. Its creator is Peter #Madyar - until recently, almost no one knew the representative of the government. His party called Tisa, which appeared on the political map of Hungary a little over a month ago, already has second place and 20-25% support.
Viktor #Orbán’s #Hungary is holding up legislation that would enable #Ukraine to receive up to €2bn for weapons from the #EU, in a blow to efforts to mobilise profits from Russian assets frozen under sanctions.
“For the time being they are blocking everything connected to the military support to Ukraine,” said one of the people, suggesting #Budapest’s reservations would remain until at least next month’s European elections.
Former president Donald #Trump again invoked authoritarian leaders at a rally Thursday, a reminder of a vision he has been outlining for a potential second term.
Trump referenced Russian President Vladimir #Putin, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, Chinese leader #Xi Jinping and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor #Orban.
Trump said the leaders were “at the top of their game, whether you like it or not.”
By deepening economic relations with both #China and #Russia, #Orbán hopes to give #Hungary an oversized say in global decision-making. And his “friendship” with #Putin is feeding the ever-growing clientelism within his government and funding his cronies.
For example, while other European countries have been downgrading the size of their staff at Russian embassies and consulates, staff numbers at the Russian Embassy in Budapest are on the rise.
Kecskemét, 1968. These two men don’t seem like the talkative types to me. At least not while they were at the local market in Kecskemét, a largish town on the Hungarian Southern Great Plain.
