According to FediDB, monthly active users on the fediverse have dropped to 1,005,573 😳 Looks like they might drop below 1 million if the downward trend continues.
A social media friend group turned friendly gathering earlier this month when @jeanettepizzurro (Jette), @Rasta (Rasta), and I (Brian) met up to hang out. It was a great time with great friends and a bit surreal actually spending an evening telling stories and laughing together in person.
@mollyjongfast I have to say, I'm really glad you're very active here Molly! Because while this is true for commercial social platforms (driven by surveillance capitalism), it is not the case for #Mastodon. I really appreciate the outspokenness of people like you, @GottaLaff@charlotteclymer@jasonkoebler and @dangillmor. Keep speaking truth to power!
Despite the despicable mangling that #Mastodon does of non-Note #ActivityPub objects, I'm getting more and more annoyed when opening a link “in-app” (e.g. by dragging it to the search field) doesn't work, because it's not a link to an AP service.
I love how people tried telling me that Twitter was better and I was wasting my time months ago with Mastodon and the Fediverse. Because more people are on X then wonder how I learn about all the latest cool #opensource and #infosec, my response is usually #Mastodon.
I mean I even found out about MNT and their Pocket Reform being released from stumbling across a post last summer from @mntmn in my federated feed. I don't think I would have ever heard of it before the release date on Twitter/X.
I login to a LOT of different Mastodon apps. Because of that, I had over 600 "authorized applications" on my account! 🤯
In certain apps, the SSO process creates a new "authorized app" every time you login instead of re-using the same one.
Anyway, I built a web browser dev tool script that iterates through them all and revokes access. I'm not sure if I should release it but it sure was useful for me.
Sounds like this issue will be going away in a future release! 🎉
Kind of creepy: Even though I have #Threads blocked as an instance, I can fully see and even interact with all accounts (and they with me???). At least I can see my test interactions on the #Mastodon interface.
Blocking in Mastodon is a bad joke. It just takes the stuff out of the mentions. 🙄
#Zuckerberg#Fediverse#Datenschutz#Privacy#Threadsblock#Threadsout
If you've ever tried to implement an OAuth Application for Mastodon, and butted into the “unknown client_id / application” error, where the Mastodon server has silently deleted your OAuth Application….
