If the #Fediverse protocol allowed to migrate from one software to another, without losing your relationships with other users, in the same way that you can do it within #Mastodon from one instance to another, I could move from Threads to Masto without losing relationships, and I would leave behind my career in #Meta to follow it within Mastodon or any other option.
This would allow a real decentralization of the user and scare away the megalomaniacal claims of platforms and monopolies.
A protocol (in this case #ActivityPub) defines a set of rules of how different parties communicate, not how they are implemented. The freedom of implementation of the same rules is exactly the reason for the existence of the #Fediverse, which consists of servers that run different software, not only #mastodon.
And it's a matter of implementation: to allow your clients to take away their data to move to another instance, or not
‼️🔑 macOS Sonoma brings Apple’s password manager to Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other browsers using their extensions stores with the “iCloud Passwords” browser extension.
You can AutoFill passwords and one-time codes, save new passwords, and right-click QR codes to set up code generators.
If you’re running the macOS Sonoma public or developer beta, you can try it right now!
Threads isn't real for me until there's a Web UI and a (free) API I can use to post with in order to leverage my various automations.
Until then it's just kind of a novel curiosity. Neither of these things seem to be much of a priority but I am enjoying watching Twitter implode because other people are using it.
@rodhilton So I guess you're betting Threads will be something worth participating in but also won't execute the interoperability. Probably a good bet. For me, I've concluded that - while it was fun to communicate directly with celebrities over on Twitter- the more ordinary human, global conversation on #Mastodon is just right. I'm tired of the hyper capitalist, attention-economy approach.
I'd like to set up a bootable SD card with #Debian to use as a fully functional #Linux desktop when I'm not gaming, the locked down #Arch is killing me
Are there any good guides on this? A bit of searching it seems like tons of people are doing this with Windows, but I haven't turned one up for Linux
Earlier today a federal jury decided that a white terrorist and mass murderer is eligible for the death penalty for killing of eleven Jewish people at the Tree Of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, PA in 2018. https://bit.ly/3NJ1dK0#TreeOfLife#Mastodon#news#BlackMastodon
Leute merkt ihr was? Lasst verdammt nochmal die Menschen in Ruhe mit eurem Pseudoliberalismus. Es muss nicht jeder so sein wie ihr es seid!
#Hashtags are important here, but maybe we should have a limit on them. I have been seeing people abusing them for spam, using popular #s that have nothing to do with their posts. Lots of porn, for instance.
I doubt any legit post would really need more than 3-5 hashtags. Maybe a separate field with a limit would solve this?
So, as I understand it, and correct me if I'm wrong, the core of #Mastodon's timeline is the #protocol that hands off everybody's posts on one instance, to all the other instances.
#Threads is an instance on the protocol that Masto uses to share posts across the world.
As I also understand it, while an instance may block incoming posts, that doesn't stop outgoing posts going to that instance, nor between people where one has migrated to the blocked instance.
Ergo: Threads is doing what I came to masto from #facebook to stop participating in - the largest #datamining and user manipulation experiment in the history of advertising.
Yes, Masto itself is cool, but like any tool, it can, and is, being used for evil. In the case of threads, it's the "hoovering up", analysing and using all of our data to manipulate people. Maybe not manipulating us, here, but certainly manipulating people on any timeline that Meta owns, and any customers of their advertising clients. And our data gives them more reaction measures, a superthread of human reactions and the goads that alter people's choices subconciously.
I'd argue that Threads isn't just data mining, it's stealing our reaction history. I destroyed my facebook account when I left. I withdrew my consent to be data mined. Now, even this post, where I again restate my position that I do not consent to my data being used as human reaction analytics, they are likely using threads to pilfer the data of even people who are not consenting to them pilfering it. That means I am seriously considering leaving the fediverse.
Sometimes I wonder why academics aren't stampeding from corporate social media to Mastodon, and then I remember: these are the same people that give corporations their work for free to be sold back to them at extortionate prices, and then measure their value on how often they do that.
oigan oigan, también me acabo de dar cuenta de que como aquí no hay algoritmo basado en likes (o ningún algoritmo whatsoever) no es posible "subir" un post con granjas de bots ni con likes ni con retoots. Is this el paraíso?
