I just heard someone ask a ChatGPT expert "what is the first big real human problem that AI will solve".

There were fifteen very long awkward seconds of silence as he tried to come up with an answer, and that is just the perfect metaphor for all this research and fervor into LLMs.

I just read the sentence “as companies struggle with the threat of AI” and my eyes rolled so hard that I hurt myself.

There is no AI threat. There is no AI. There are people treating ludicrously expensive algorithms as one stop solutions to esoteric problems.

The only threat is the one constructed by managers who think theres a threat. It’s a self fulfilling prophecy.

Can someone please turn the tech industry off and on again? Theres a whole load of corrupted memory floating around.

Wondering if anyone can help me here… for years now I’ve been trying to find a book that I loved as a kid. I am almost certain that it was called The Marmalade War… it definitely had marmalade in the title. It’s an illustraded book about two twins defending themselves from a sticky antagonist that is covered in orange marmalade. At the end of the book its revealed the villain is their older sibling. It’s basically a story about child make-believe.
