Okalaydokalay,

Hopefully you don’t need a second launcher like Ubisoft and EA and Rockstar do. Defeats the purpose of being on Steam in the first place and is downright shitty.

I’m really glad Microsoft hasn’t done that with the games I’ve bought on there so far.

I cannot imagine they would skip the battle.net launcher, but I would love it if they did!

EDIT: Players using Steam will have access to features of the platform while playing Overwatch 2, such as Steam achievements, their Steam friends list, and the ability to invite them to play in-game.

Dang this is looking positive.

Runs directly through Steam according to Mike Ybarra

Okalaydokalay,

That’s really good to hear. Thanks for confirming!

yesdogishere,

Overwatch and all these games being brought to the platform are CRAP. Yuck. Bloated and revolting. So much gfx power and hdd capacity consumed for? CRAP. Hugely inefficient for entertainment dollar.

Okalaydokalay,

To be truthful, I’m not a fan of Overwatch and have actually never played the game. I’m not into the MMO style games.

But what I’m rooting for is the fact that studios are bringing their games to Steam without their bloatware being required for playing.

I really hope to see less and less of this over time, even in games I don’t care much for. Just want to see us finally moving away from that archaic BS.

Wow, I might actually play Overwatch again. Probably not, but maybe…

Narrrz,

I'm grudgingly okay with steam launching the apps specific launcher, e. g. Warframe.

I draw the line at it launching the company's own game platform. if I wanted the stupid b. net launcher I would fucking have it already, alright?!

Okalaydokalay,

I can agree to that. Kind of like how Bethesda’s games like Fallout and Oblivion have a menu that appears between Steam and the actual gameplay, with a play button and settings for the game.

I just hate having:

  • another motherfucking program running in the background taking resources (it may not be that much, but it’s still something. And when gaming, every resource counts!)
  • another damn password/account that I have to remember and has the potential to get me involved in yet another fun breach of my private information/data
  • another app I need to keep updated and wait for it to update, especially when I only use the thing for one game
  • another app that promises it’ll remember my password but doesn’t because I haven’t opened it in a week
  • a convenient way for me to get locked out. Not only do I have the potential of getting banned from Steam and losing my game there, I now have the ability to get banned from another platform and lose my game there too!! Or maybe I just have a different account email/verification that I forget to update and lose access that way

Let me just keep everything in one launcher and be that be that, is all I ask as a paying customer. Or be like GOG and let me never have to use the launcher if I don’t want to!

Honestly, it should really not be an issue to have a program running. Your computer has plenty of processes running all the time.

Steam is pretty resource-heavy, but a process shouldn't need to be.

Do people still play Overwatch?!?

RedditRefugeeTom,

I miss it. It was great to play years ago. I’m not going to pick up OW2. Not after what they did to it from the OG OW.

UnaSolaEstrellaLibre,

Hmm, this gives an excuse for Blizzard to provide support for the Steam Deck in a more official capacity.

It wouldn’t be too far fetched since they have fixed issues on their side involving wine, for example.

SoSquidTaste,

Not to sound doom gloomy here, but my reasons for ditching Blizzard games were absolutely not the launcher. I don't think I'll be going back to Overwatch or anything else in their portfolio because of my issues with game development/marketing (PvE in OW2 promises vs. reality, Warcraft 3 Reforged debacle, etc.).

That said, for anyone who still is up on Blizzard properties, having platform choice is always nice. I still play a ton of Apex Legends and love that it's available via Steam rather than just EA's launcher, for example.

I’m not fond of blizzard and I think overwatch 2’s time has long since passed so I’m not sure how helpful this will be

But I still play hearthstone and I sincerely think that it’s the best the game has ever been so hopefully a steam release is a second wind for the game. Not that it’s dead by any means but I’d love for it to feel like a popular game again

HidingCat,

Well, there's a reason they're doing this. Clearly they need the numbers, and that's why OW2 is the first game that's coming to Steam.
