Meeeh!
@SheDrivesMobility
v0.3 of Heffalump (a Mastodon client for PalmOS) is out now! This release (finally) adds the ability to view your own past toots, as well as replies (to both your own and others' toots).
@knickish this looks so cool and I was briefly tempted to dig out my old Palm m105 until I remembered it didn't have any sort of internet connectivity.
@flatdogx@fzer0 sorry.
@matteo@feb
@jacqueline Now when you say "basic" Bluetooth SBC audio support, does that go all the way to the extreme 500-ish kbps rates that the codec - as well as the virtual totality of receiver devices on the market - officially supports? Word on the the street is everyone could benefit from aptX HD levels of quality without owning aptX HD enabled receivers/headphones, with only the transmitter devices needing to take care to support the best of what SBC has to offer - http://soundexpert.org/articles/-/blogs/audio-quality-of-sbc-xq-bluetooth-audio-codec
Israel bombed Rafah in southern Gaza over 60 times in 48 hours, ignoring the International Court of Justice orders to stop its military operations there.
Israel bombed displaced Palestinians in tents, killing over 30 Palestinians, including children.
The scenes coming out of Rafah are horrific, resembling a massacre.
blows my mind that some people pay for AWS when it offers less and costs more than 10 dedicated servers with the amount of traffic you may get with something like a file hoster or a popular fedi instance
like, 0x0.st gets 40 TB or more of egress traffic during peak months (and rarely less than 15TB). that’d cost over $3500 with AWS :neofox_googly_shocked:
holy fuck lmao. is it that bad also for github? damn. I thought I'd maybe give in and test the ublue thing and flatpaks and i heard the isos are built on github ci
@mischievoustomato it’s that bad for everything that runs docker but i assume microsoft has enough dough to make up for it in hardware, considering they’re willing to boil oceans with datacenters full of A100’s for their AI scams
#books#reading Earlier, I began reading "Mind Games" by Nora Roberts. It promises to be an excellent read.
Book description: The #1 New York Times-bestselling author of Identity presents a suspenseful new novel of tragedy and trauma, love and family, and the evil that awaits. As they do each June, the Foxes have driven the winding roads of Appalachia to drop off their children for a two-week stay at their grandmother’s. Here, twelve-year-old Thea can run free and breathe in the smells of pine and fresh bread and Grammie’s handmade candles. But as her parents head back to suburban Virginia, they have no idea they’re about to cross paths with a ticking time bomb. Back in Kentucky, Thea and her grandmother Lucy both awaken from the same nightmare. And though the two have never discussed the special kind of sight they share, they know as soon as their tearful eyes meet that something terrible has happened. The kids will be staying with Grammie now in Redbud Hollow, and thanks to Thea’s vision, their parents’ killer will spend his life in supermax. Over time, Thea will make friends, build a career, find love. But that ability to see into minds and souls still lurks within her, and though Grammie calls it a gift, it feels more like a curse―because the inmate who shattered her childhood has the same ability. Thea can hear his twisted thoughts and witness his evil acts from miles away. He knows it, and hungers for vengeance. A long, silent battle will be waged between them―and eventually bring them face to face, and head to head…
@evilcookies98 Oh, for sure! So is spellcheck. When I switch from Windows to iOS, one of the things that took me time to get used to is how the backspace key works in iOS. The cursor position is different.
It is kind of darkly funny watching so many giant tech companies completely gut their institutional expertise by promoting people who not only do not understand the most basic realities of their own products, but cannot be convinced of the most trivial of truths.
@mcc@whitequark@xgranade It is both characteristic of complex systems that they can fail suddenly and that they can carry on far longer than they should in degraded mode (they're always running in degraded mode)
Having massively over-promised on an immature technology with really quite a limited range of productive use-cases, #AI firms are now contriving to deliver.
However, because there is no tangible product, they are using their financial might and institutional power to bludgeon the Internet and society as a whole into an AI-shaped hole.
It's like a company that makes anti-diarrhoea meds pumping laxatives into the water-supply to engineer enough demand to justify billion of investment.
@kyonshi I was quite impressed that banks et al didn't get taken in by crypto but they have been absolutely 100% rinced by AI (which seems to be a lot of the same people as crypto, possibly because they invested in computing power and have now pivotted) @Printdevil@vdonnut
@kyonshi@Taskerland@vdonnut I have a fromage brain filter which clicks in instantly consultants are involved. The second PwC or Deloitte (Or whoever.. pick your path to adventure) turn up, I just hear them saying "BUY MY CHEESE" in various tones of voice, and once you start just listening for it. Their tone even slightly changes.. "Ah.. Cheese Tone"
