pushes back on proposed bill giving workers the ‘’ after hours

A new bill from Assembly Member would clearly outline when companies can communicate w/their during off hrs, following other countries that have passed “right to disconnect” .

industries like health care & airlines would likely be the least affected, since their working hrs are hashed out at the bargaining table in many cases. specifically allows agreements to take precedence over protections.

Other industries w/less penetration, such as , would likely see clearer rules ahead of time e.g. like when would be required to pull all-nighters to ship the latest update.

Today in Labor History March 22, 1972: U.S. Congress sent the Equal Rights Amendment to the states for ratification. It failed. And to this day, women earn 84% of what men do. One of the exceptions is public education, where teachers’ unions have fought and won the right to collectively bargain salaries based on years of experience, not gender. The first ERA was introduced to Congress in 1923. The 1972 had wide bipartisan support, including by presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter, and seemed destined to pass. However, Phyllis Schlafly mobilized conservative women against the amendment, arguing that it would disadvantage housewives, make them eligible for the draft and cause divorcees to lose custody of their children. This killed the ERA in the 1970s. From 2017-2020, several states have ratified the ERA. However, it is uncertain whether these ratifications are legal, since they occurred after the deadlines. Schlafly went on to become a major player in the anti-abortion and anti-feminist and anti-LGBTQ rights movements.

Inizia a farlo.

Tutti voi hackerate i sistemi ogni giorno. Studiate tutti ingegneria sociale e la combattete ogni giorno.

Hackerate il mercato del lavoro. Progettate socialmente la nostra protezione reciproca.

Today in Labor History January 30, 1933: German President Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor. Almost immediately, Hitler began his attacks on labor, with his Sturmabteilung (paramilitary) raiding and burning union offices and assassinating labor leaders, while the police looked on. In May, 1933, he created the German Labor Front, a fascist labor organization to replace the gutted unions. They sent many of the labor leaders to concentration camps and abolished collective bargaining and union elections. Also in May, 1933, the Nazis also attacked and destroyed the Institute for Sexual Sciences, home to the world’s first trans medical clinic, which performed the world’s first sexual reassignment surgeries, for Karl Meir Baer, in 1906, and Lili Elbe, in 1930-1931.

Today in Labor History January 18, 1934: The anarchist General Confederation of Labor launched a General Strike in Portugal after the government banned unions, strikes and collective bargaining. The government put it down, killing 100, deporting 600 and outlawing of the labor union. Some members of the union blamed the strike’s failure on Communists, who they believe ratted out their plans to the government in advance, resulting in the arrest of several strike leaders the night before the strike took place.

employees and anyone else in similarly asinine situations where mandates are implemented to exert control over employees and prop up outdated real estate boondoggles in the middle of another covid surge should start negotiations with an unassailable demand to be paid for commute time, from the moment their vehicle leaves their driveway. If the CEO thinks innovation requires commuting, then he needs to pay every goddamned cent to employees for doing so. AND that time counts towards 40-hr overtime. You want an employee to waste 4 hours of their life every day commuting? Then FUCKING PAY THEM FOR IT.

@AG Sulzberger,
I want to #celebrate our execs on their impressive union dodging skills. Not since the movie Dodgeball came out have I seen such great examples of the 5 D’s: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge. As Patches O’Houlihan would say, “if you can dodge a ball, you can dodge a union.” I never imagined it was possible to ignore such a large portion of your workforce for over a year, but the level of contempt management has for its workers is truly impressive! In fact, since negotiations began, only 2.5% of our working time has been spent on bargaining. @AG Sulzberger,
We all had something to on March 3, 2022, when the 600+ members of the Times Tech Guild overwhelmingly voted to certify our union. Since then, there’s been little to celebrate. We’ve had far too few bargaining sessions -- just 15 in the last year. And management’s few counter proposals have been sweepingly dismissive of our careful work in crafting language that represents the needs of our entire unit. Today, we’re calling on company leadership all the way from @AG Sulzberger and @meredith.levien -- who have yet to attend a single bargaining session -- to @hannah.yang, @jsobel, @alex.hardiman, @kerri.crossan, and @ryan.darcy: It’s time to take bargaining seriously. That means longer, more frequent bargaining sessions and counter proposals that demonstrate your respect for our unit and our bargaining rights.
