Instagram is now blocking web access to force consent as well. Here is how to get around giving consent:
Instagram redirects to a URL like this: [https://www.instagram.com/consent/?flow=ad_free_subscription&params_json=](https://www.instagram.com/consent/?flow=ad_free_subscription¶ms_json=)...
Change ad_free_subscription to anything, like ad_free_subscription1, hit enter.
Instagram then will show an error, but you can then navigate anywhere from there.

This is very interesting because I had a chat with the Irish DPC last week about my complaints against Meta and Youtube in relation to "Pay or OK" and unlawful detection of adblockers.
Irish DPC informed me that they were waiting on their own action until the #EDPB had concluded their ongoing investigation.
Today Meta removes the paywall on Facebook - which, would seem to indicate that there is an incoming enforcement action from the EDPB - I see no other reason why Meta would back down.
Those of you caught up debating the technical minutiae of federating with Threads are missing the forest for the trees.
This is about one thing: Affording social capital to/normalising/legitimising Meta/Facebook/surveillance capitalism (and thereby delegitimising those who oppose them).
Hey, if the author of Mastodon thinks Meta/Facebook/Instagram/surveillance capitalism is socially acceptable there must be something wrong with you if you don’t.
Do you assume that #Facebook will reuse third-party Fediverse account data for e.g. surveillance? The #EDPB and the Irish data protection authority asked Facebook to rely on consent as a legal basis. One can now wonder how free this consent is if you otherwise need to pay 100€ per year or so. However, Facebook has no good leverage to seek this consent from those third-party Fediverse users. Hence, should we rely on #GDPR instead of limiting APIs? #surveillanceCapitalism#fedipact
#staytuned
The EU bans Meta's use of personal data for behavioural advertising.

#EDPB Urgent Binding Decision on processing of personal data for behavioural advertising by #Meta
"The EDPB takes note of Meta's proposal to rely on a consent based approach as legal basis, as it was reported on 30/10. The Irish DPC is currently evaluating this together with the Concerned Supervisory Authorities (CSAs)."
Norway wants Facebook behavioural advertising banned across Europe.
Norway has told the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) it believes a countrywide ban on Meta harvesting user data to serve up advertising on Facebook and Instagram should be made permanent and extended across Europe.

The #Ireland#dataProtection "Supervisory Authority" published today their decision to fine #Meta "in the amount of €1.2 billion".
They chose the figure after their obligation to follow the #EDPB’s decision including:
"273. In light of the above, the EDPB instructs the IE SA to impose an administrative fine on Meta IE for the infringement of Article 46(1) #GDPR that is in line with the principles of effectiveness, proportionality
and dissuasiveness under Article 83(1)."
#GDPR:
"Already in December 2022, the EDPB binding decisions clarified that contract is not a suitable legal basis for the processing of personal data carried out by Meta for behavioural advertising," said #EDPB Chair. "In addition, Meta has been found by the (DPC) to not have demonstrated compliance with the orders imposed at the end of last year. It is high time for #Meta to bring its processing into compliance and to stop unlawful processing." https://edpb.europa.eu/news/news/2023/edpb-urgent-binding-decision-processing-personal-data-behavioural-advertising-meta_en
